We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ReShawn Wilder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ReShawn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
There’s this huge food blogger/influencer that had given my some advice before starting my brand. He said “whatever you do, create a name that will stick!”
One day, I was sitting in a coffee shop, where I was pondering on the perfect name.
The thought of “everyone eats with their eyes first” came to mind. It was an ah ha moment, because everyone does eat with their eyes first. I thought to myself “I want to showcase amazing and delicious looking food.”
That’s how Eyes of a Foodie cane to life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up watching my mom and grandmother cook. Food just always intrigued me. I loved how you could take a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, and create something magical. I had been cooking for almost 20yrs. by the time that I auditioned for Masterchef. My infamous cheesecake is what landed me a spot in the top 80 out of 20,000 people. Since then, I’ve created a successful cheesecake company with well over 40 flavors. I’ve also expanded to catering.
What sets me apart from other cheesecakes and other businesses in general, is the story behind every product. Each cheesecake literally has a nostalgic story behind it, and allows my customers to relate to that flavor.
What I love most about my brand is that, I’m hands on with everything. It’s important to always be reachable and relatable. I love that my brand is full of life, and I love the sense of nostalgia my customers have when they eat my cheesecakes.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation was building relationships with people in general. I’ve always made and still make it a point to keep in touch with everyone. I was a food influencer for years, so keeping those relationships going was and is important.
Any advice for managing a team?
The best advice I have for managing team and maintaining high morale is to do all things with integrity. Learn how to be a learner and be open to new things and ideas. It’s an important to have respect for others, and to do everything with love.
