We recently connected with Renrick Palmer and have shared our conversation below.
Renrick, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most recent meaningful projects I’ve worked on was playing the character Hassim in the Award Winning Best Short Film “Hold Up” written, produced, and directed by Alex Berg. The experience will live on with me forever. I played a homeless individual who constantly struggled with the hardships associated with being homeless. My character was not only homeless and hungry but longed for companionship and meaningful friendships where he felt like he belonged. In this role, my character tried to sell a bottle of lotion throughout the entire day so he could secure some money to buy himself something to eat. Unfortunately, no one was interested, forced with the realization that he would once again not have a meal to eat he realized he had no option but to beg the next person the encountered to buy him a meal if they too were not interested in purchasing the lotion he was offering for sale. Most often, homeless individuals are considered a menace to society, therefore, they are often rejected and frowned upon. I was able to play this role so well because I identified with the character. Myself being homeless not so long ago and had to sleep in a car many nights. Additionally, growing up I remember, food at times was a scarce commodity because my mother simply didn’t have it. These personal life experiences coupled with others allowed me to relate to the character and bring him to life.

Renrick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and lived most of my childhood years in Kingston, Jamaica. At age thirteen, my family was able to migrate to the United States where we settled in Brooklyn, New York. Once settled in Brooklyn, I continued my studies at South Shore High School. After graduating high school, I enrolled in Medgar Evers College where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Upon completion of my bachelor’s degree, I enrolled in the United States Air Force, where I completed a four years term. My time in uniform took me around the world, including a tour of duty in the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, exposing him to numerous cultures and experiences most of us seldom have. Not only did this help me develop as a person, but it also provided me with the foundation for all that soon followed. After leaving the United States Air Force, I enrolled in Long Island University, Brooklyn campus., where I obtained a Master’s degree in Exercise Science and used it to launch my career. Additionally, I graduated from the New York Film Academy and I am active with the Public Works Military Resilience Foundation. My passion traces back to Shakespeare, fueling my drive to perform.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in this life is to create a part that has not been uncharted by anyone else in my family. My family has either been Educators, Medical professionals, or Government workers. My mission is to bring about a long and lasting change.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I Think NFTs are incredibly beneficial to an artist, it allows them to interact with their audience more closely and gives them more control of their art, however, I believe it still needs more time to develop.
