We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rennee Hubb Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rennee below.
Rennee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Inspiring 2 Live started as a hashtag and was officially birthed in 2020 when I lost (4 family members within 40 days). During that period, I took a break from everything. I was looking for healing and trying to find out how to adjust to my new normal. After praying, I begin to write inspiring messages to help others heal and gain an understanding that it’s okay to grieve.
Rennee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an overcomer, author, mother, grandmother, and Evangelist. Who wrote “From Bound 2 Found”, which walks readers through my story? By the age of 18, I had two children. At 23, I raised my twelve-year-old sister due to the loss of our mother. I share my story often about being homeless, suicidal, and bound in a relationship meant to destroy me. My purpose is to tell people they can be free and that the Lord Jesus Christ will restore and heal them. While reminding them of my motto, “Impact Over Popularity”.
I am also an Evangelist (Preacher) and a member at Victorious Life of Faith Church, where Elder Victor L. Furr and First Lady Nadine Furr. I am the outreach leader of the VLOFC Outreach Ministry (HAVE- Hope and Victory for Everyone) and serve with the Culinary Ministry, and assist with teaching Adults Sunday school.
Some of my most humbling and greatest moments include features on WUSA 9 Great Day Wash, Fox 45, Fox 5, The Good Word Podcast with Tishia Lewis, and more. My brand is titled Inspiring 2 Live; it includes Inspiring daily messages, a Parfume named Rennee’, apparel with my motto, Impact Over Popularity, and one kind of African American ABC Affirmation card. I also run a catering business with my sister, Robin & Renneé Catering. They are one of the 2018 Top 100 Minority Enterprise Business Winners.
Last but not least. I have a Facebook Live show and Podcast with my best friend called “Let’s Talk About It With Angie and Rennee’.” It’s Faith-based, and it’s on all major platforms.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2020, my grandfather was placed in a nursing home due to his decline in health. He played a significant role in my life on June 6. He passed away, and due to Covid, we could not be in the hospital. Thirty days later, on July 6, 2020, while driving, I received a phone call that my grandmother had passed away. Due to covid, I could not see her for some time, and my grandmother became a mother figure when my mom passed away. While burying my grandmother, we received a phone call that my nephew Marcus had been rushed to the hospital. Marcus was like a son to me. I helped with doctors’ appointments, Assisted with his care, and played a significant role in his life. While visiting him, I was standing outside the parking lot, receiving a phone call that my niece had passed away. Those 45 days were one of the darkest moments of my life. Every scripture, every sermon, every song, and every prayer came to mind. I found myself crying and trying to understand how I would move forward. It was nothing but the grace of God and those connected to me that helped me bounce back.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Don’t ever look at someone’s else success as a blueprint for your business. When operating any business, you must determine what success looks like. I learned, after spending a significant amount of money, that the blueprint for my company should not be determined by someone else outcome. I advise anyone looking to start a business to write their vision, pray, pray, and pray. Then execute the plan based on what you wrote and your prayer. Measure your success on the impact, not the popularity.
