We recently connected with Renelle Everett Darr and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Renelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My dad passed away in 2019 and writing his obituary and his eulogy was a profound experience and one that brought me closer to the beauty of the cycle of life and ultimately my own personal legacy. When I think of my legacy, I reflect that each choice I make and each action I take, no matter if it is driving my kids to school, calling a friend or working on a major project is part of my legacy. Further, it reminds me that each moment is a choice and supports how I will fulfill my purpose in this life and ultimately be remembered.
I hope I will be remembered for helping people know they mattered, not just to me, but to the entire world. I hope I will be remembered for being honest, raw and real. I hope I will be remembered for inspiring courage by making my struggles known, facing my fears and transforming it all into love. I hope I will be remembered for my combination of a sensitive open heart and strong warrior spirit. I hope thinking of me will remind people to have fun and live life to its fullest with adventurous experiences, well-earned tears, lots of smiles and big belly laughs. I hope organizations and people will experience true and profound transformation because of our work together.
Ultimately, I hope my children will take the best qualities I’ve gifted them and be equipped to be a loving force in the world and have the fortitude to transform my weaknesses into their unique strengths.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I own a consulting and coaching business, InSight Coaching & Consulting. I started it 13 years ago as way to more fully live out my purpose and also to change the way we experience work.
InSight knows that a purposeful culture and visionary leadership is the overlooked growth strategy. We know that adding these two elements to the overall strategy creates significant shift. Yes, it contributes to an organization’s bottom line, but more importantly, it brings humanity back to the workplace and that has ripple effects across families, cities and ultimately the world. Many people spend more than half their waking life at work, so shouldn’t work be a place of personal growth and deep relationships? InSight is known for being a co-creator with our clients. We walk the journey of shift with them.
We engage in deep work with CEO’s, leadership teams and full organizations to help evolve our consciousness and thrive in this more complex world. We are in the midst of a paradigm shift in both work and the world. InSight becomes part of an organization’s ecosystem to help facilitate this profound shift. I’m most proud of my partnerships with my clients and my partnerships with other coaches and consultants. Together, we are evolving ourselves and the systems we are in.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My resilience was put to the test in 2020 which was my first year as a single mom. Suddenly I had two very upset elementary children (1st and 3rd grades) at home and became their teacher, cook, counselor, and cheerleader as well as trying to pivot my business amidst the shut down. I lost all of my business in March 2020 in a week. It was the scariest thing I’d ever experienced. With mindfulness, belief, trust, and a lot of grit, I was able to pivot the business and bring back clients, create new service lines and somehow be there for my kids. I remember many sleepless nights, a lot of new aches and pains in my body, and many tears. However, I knew I had to get up every morning and be there for my kids and be of help to the world and myself. I had never experienced anything like this and felt the reality of being a woman and single mom. It forever changed me and I will forever be an advocate for supporting women and shifting social structures to make that a possibility.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think being true to my values, being honest even when it scared me, and truly being a partner with my clients has helped build my reputation. Almost all of my work comes from word of mouth or referrals.
