We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Renee Nicole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Renee below.
Renee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The defining moment in my life began in 2007 when my father passed away. I was a State Tested Nurse Aide here in Ohio. I promised myself to finish nursing school and give back to my community. I wanted to be an advocate for others that are not able to understand the medical jargon. I have always been a caring nurturing person, so it is just in me to help others. One other defining moment for me would be when I completely tore my Achillies tendon racing my grandson. Yea, I know! Everyone is thinking, what is a lady my age doing racing her grandson. That moment of being helpless for nine months not able to walk, drive or exercise was driving me insane. Once I was back on my feet I was able to get back into the gym and work out which then made me finally decide to get certified as a personal trainer.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I initially started working out after my divorce. I was depressed and stressed. What really made me pursue my certification as a personal trainer was the moment I tore my Achillies tendon and had to have surgery and was not able to walk or drive for almost one year. I told myself I never want to feel helpless, i never want to depend on others to care for me. I want to be healthy enough where my recovery time is less and I am able to walk, jump, skip hop and play with my grandson. I want to be able to help all women no matter your age or size to reach their health goal through fun and effective workouts, nutritious meal plans and helpful lifestyle tips. I stive to inspire and motivate others to live their best lives. I want women to love the skin they are in. I want to make it a norm where women enjoy going to the gym or just exercising. Using this time as a moment of clarity or to alleviate stress, some mommy time or alone time. To work on that goal of having the figure that they always wanted or just optimal health.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Self-love. Learning to love myself. It took me to almost being 50 years old to truly love myself. Growing up I was teased because of my big forehead and big nose. I would look in the mirror and not really like what I saw. I was ok but I really did not like my own reflection. I allowed all of the negative comments to dim my light. As years went by lessons were learned I began to not really care what others thought. I began to learn to love myself for who I am, for who I was made to be. I love and accept all of my flaws gracefully.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being an example. Starting from the bottom and working your way up. Letting others see your progress understanding that nobody or nothing is perfect. It takes hard work and dedication but it is a great feeling. Showing that it starts from the inside and you will begin to bloom into something that you love that is beautiful to you. Your glow!
