Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Renee Grant. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Renee, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started my beauty business with a Mobile Boutique. I transformed a 12X6 trailer into a mini store on wheels. That business was called “So Glam Pretty” Mobile Boutique. I sold mainly accessories, makeup, bling, hats, sunglasses, and some beauty products. I participated in many vendor events throughout South Florida. It was very successful. But I wanted bigger and better for myself, so I decided to open an actual brick and mortar store. I eventually sold my mobile boutique, and invested that money toward taking beauty supply business classes with a company that specializes in opening beauty supply retail stores throughout the United States. I had to make sure my finances were in place to take my business to the next level. I changed the name of my business to “Allure Beauty Supply Palm Beach.” I now offer quality hair, wigs, beauty supplies, nail care, skin care, accessories, cosmetics, salon/barber equipment and more. I am very excited about my business growth and success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have also been an educator and entrepreneur all my adult life. As my passion for the beauty industry grew, I decided to fulfill my ultimate dream to open my own beauty supply store, called “Allure Beauty Supply Palm Beach.”
Educational Background
I graduated with my Master of Science degree from Nova. S.E. University in 2009, and prior to that, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in 2003. I received my Florida Director Credential in Management from Palm Beach State College in 2011. In 2022, I received my Beauty Supply Institute Certification; completing all courses in “Store Start-Up & Operations”, affirming that I met all requirements on planning, developing, opening, and running a single or multi-store beauty retail business.
Personal Background
I am a wife, and mom of 2 wonderful children who were inspired by their mom to become young entrepreneurs and start their own children’s accessory business: selling at community events across Palm Beach County. I have always been passionate about the Beauty Industry. My innovative and successful Mobile Boutique business was just the start to me opening my brick-and-mortar store. I plan to open a chain of Beauty Supply Stores in the future.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective and cost-efficient strategy for growing my clientele has been social media, marketing newsletters, and client referrals. I have to make sure that I am being very consistent by posting daily content, and constantly showing up and be present for my customers and clients. I also have gained success with my customer loyalty program. I offer excellent incentives and discounts for my loyal customers.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
When I sold my mobile boutique business, I made sure I used the profits wisely and put it toward startup costs for my new beauty supply business. I had a plan, and I executed it.
