We recently connected with Renee Goodwin and have shared our conversation below.
Renee , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I’ve learned to do what I do with content creating over time. I would always post photos however; I didn’t realize the other things that went behind taking actual photos and having to plan it out, finding locations to match outfits, learning different strategies. I honestly think the most important skill is having confidence and not caring about what others think and also just being creative and relatable to the viewers. The obstacles that stands in the way with me at times is sometimes wanting things to be “perfect” instead of just going with the flow or improvising. Sometimes I let my anxiety get in the way of a simple post it’s insane when in reality no one really cares and anxiety is worrying about something that isn’t here yet instead of staying present like “just do it”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Depending on where people became apart of my journey some people known me for working with singer Ciara and managing websites years ago.. I always talk about the switch from blogs to social media and I was caught in the change and it was very hard trying to adjust however I adjusted quickly. I got into posting photos of my self just for fun and it would always make the “popular page” so then I gained more followers from that. I honestly just started taking content creating serious two years ago and since then it’s been a great journey. I am most proud for staying consistent and fighting through my self doubts even when I’m going through personal life and still pushing through.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is seeing others react to my content and also brands reaching out to work with me that lets me know I’m heading in the right direction. TikTok I love to post how I’m feeling and know that there are others going through the exact same thing as me, it’s very rewarding and helps me out as well.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve built my audience with just being consistent and relatable on both instagram and TikTok. Once I took it serious I treated it as a normal 9-5 with creating a lot of content within two days and then coming up with a schedule to post it through out the week. The advice I would give is to just do it, don’t worry about what others think, be consistent, buy that tripod. Find your niche and start creating look for popular sounds etc experiment with different times to post and just go for it! Also you will have times where your content may not perform well, take that as a challenge and not a failure there will always be ONE that could change your life overnight.
