Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dainty Dames Events, Renee Dorian – Begley and Jillian Burgos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Renee Dorian – Begley and Jillian Burgos, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you both developed the mission that drives your brand?
Renee: I’d say having children was the biggest risk! LOL But I love it and couldn’t imagine my life any other way. But definitely starting our own business was probably the biggest risk. We previously worked for another company that was more established but not creatively fulfilling for us. Taking that leap and trusting that we were doing the right thing was risky, but it has been so much more rewarding.
Jillian: Aside from creating Dainty Dames Events, I have uprooted my life to run for Los Angeles City Council District 2. Running a campaign is very much like starting a business and my vision for my community is the product. I am very deeply invested in uplifting the voice of my community, being a public servant, and bringing compassion and common sense solutions to City Hall.

Renee Dorian – Begley and Jillian Burgos, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Renee: HI! I’m Renee Dorian – Begley. I’m originally from Ohio and Kentucky, but have lived out here in Los Angeles for 20 years this year! I have been a working Actor in TV/Film/Commercials/Voiceovers and Audiobooks for many years now. Since 2009, I have also added writer and producer to my list of credits. If I’m not working on a project, I’m creating a project. I am happily married with 2 children, and a new puppy. I opened Dainty Dames Events with Jillian in 2014 and have been so grateful to have a business that is thriving and keeps me creatively fulfilled when times are slow. (Like right now with almost all of Hollywood on strike!) Jillian and I not only write all of our shows, we create the characters, the games, and design the materials that our client’s hold when hosting the party.
Jillian: Hello friends, I’m Jillian Burgos. My partner and I live in NoHo and have two sweet cats. I’m kind of a Jill-of-all-trades using my powers for good. I’m a theatre kid who still gets excited creating new shows. I love writing, acting (sometimes), and directing. I’m also an avid weightlifter. When I’m not working with Dainty Dames Events on shows, I’m the Treasurer for the NoHo Neighborhood Council, Chair of Housing and Services, and a member of many community groups advocating/volunteering for the greater good. Now I’m running for Los Angeles City Council District 2.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Renee: Marketing and referrals! The more we can widen our network the more bites we get. But also, word of mouth is SOOO helpful. If someone hosts a party, 9 times out of 10, someone from that party will then refer us to another friend or family member.
Jillian: I am so grateful when someone has been referred by a friend or former client to our company. We give 110% to every client and it shows! Renee and I are very passionate about creating memories that last a lifetime for each of our clients.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Renee: I would say a story of resilience would have to be when Covid hit. 2020 was projected to be the best year yet for our business. We had clients booking events well into the summer for shows. Then when everything shut down, we had to pivot our business, and rethink our plan. Luckily, we adapted well :) and we created virtual events for our clients who wanted to still do something fun, even in the safety of their own home during lockdown. It was a great way for us to still be able to entertain and not close down for good.
Jillian: Renee and I have been through a lot in our nearly decade together. We have had a lot of life milestones: marriage, kids, career change, etc. and our share of struggles, but it has only made our bond as business partners, friends, and sisters (from another mister!) even closer. We oddly think alike and dress alike without planning it!
