We recently connected with Renee Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Renee, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Let me just start by saying I love being a business owner, being my own boss is amazing. Do I wonder what it would be like to have a regular 9-5 job? Yes, but mostly just to have the steady paycheck. Especially in times like now, with prices rising which worry me about paying bills. I am a photographer full time so when people cancel last minute it really makes me worried because I was obviously depending on that session for my primary income. I understood when starting my business and switching to full time that there will be times where money won’t be coming in as much, but I try to look on the more positive side. I am a single mom of two and being able to make my own schedule and be home more with my kids really makes it worth it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Renee and I am the owner of Gold Arrow Photography. I am a single mom of two wild humans. I started my photography business about 4 years ago, but have had an interest in photography since I was little. I used to do fun shoots with my friends, but I never took it seriously till after I had my son. I knew I needed to be able to provide for him, but also did not want to be away from him for to long. That’s when I dove back into photography. I started with just family sessions, then got into maternity shoots. I became interested in them after doing my own maternity shoot when I was pregnant with my son. After that first maternity shoot, I fell in love. Those sessions are my favorite to shoot. I love capturing the beauty of motherhood and making my clients feel beautiful, because I know it’s something that’s hard to feel when you’re pregnant. I really want my clients to know that one of my main priorities is to make our sessions together to be fun. I want to capture memories, not just a sit and smile photo, but the ones where everyone is laughing, running, kissing, the real raw moments that make life so beautiful.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source lately for new clients has been instagram. I have been expanding my social media from doing not just photos, but reels that showcase my different shoots, and that has gained me more clients and interest from people.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I stay in touch with client through social media. I follow them and like post, comment, really try to stay in touch. I like making my clients feel more like friends then just someone who comes once and never talk to again.
