Renee , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
My career as a hairstylist started in 2017. I began by assisting and eventually working full time in commission based salons until COVID 19 happened. When we were told salons were going to reopen, I had a realization that I needed my own private space to allow my clients to feel safe and comfortable as it was such a vulnerable time for many. The opportunity came to me to open my own studio salon. It was at thatt time one of the biggest risks I would take. Not knowing how many clients felt comfortable returning to the salon and if I was going to make it financially. Despite all my “what ifs” and fears I knew it was what I needed to do. That decision ended up being the biggest turning point in my career. Fast forward 3 years later and my wife and I decide to move to Saint Petersburg, FL. I jumped right back into subleasing a salon suite relying on social media marketing and my business savings to get me by while I built my clientele from the ground up in a new city. After 7 months I felt that it was time to have my own space again. This time I took an even bigger risk then I did opening my studio salon. I decided to open a 3 chair salon. I invested a lot of money, time and effort to make this dream a reality. Now 6 months later and I couldn’t be more thankful for taking that risk. Being a business owner of course comes with its struggles but Ive never felt so sure about the path that I am on and I cant wait to see where it goes. Risks are definitely worth taking.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began my journey in the hair world in 2017. From working in commission based salons to now owning my own 3 chair rental salon. I specialize in dimensional brunettes, blondes, vivids and modern shag haircuts. I utilize instagram, facebook and TikTok for all of my personal and salon marketing. These marketing strategies have allowed me to build my clientele from the ground up. I pride myself on being a laid back stylist, business owner and friend. I enjoy building close relationships with my clientele and stylists around me. The salon space I have created is designed to showcase our style and create a chill vibe.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele is utilizing social media platforms. I use instagram t showcase all of my work. Making sure I am tagging brands, local businesses, and my location. I use TikTok to show more of my personal life updates, outfits of the day and things going on in the salon. Facebook groups are used to network with people in the area looking for a new hairstylist that best fits their needs. All of these strategies have helped bring in clientele for myself and the other stylists in the salon.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with clients is extremely important. Now with social media it makes it much more simple. Obviously I am their hairstylist so that comes first but interacting with them through their socials allows us to become friends in a sense. I always stay consistent with liking their photos and leaving comments to remind them that not only am I your hairstylist but I also care about you on a deeper level. Client relationships are so important to me and many have turned into friends outside of the salon.
