We were lucky to catch up with Renee Ash recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Renee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
One significant trend in the influencer, fashion, beauty, and reality TV industries is the rise of authenticity and inclusivity. Influencers and personalities are increasingly embracing their uniqueness and connecting with audiences on a more genuine level. This trend isn’t just about showcasing flawless images but also about embracing imperfections and diversity.
For instance, there’s this makeup artist who gained a massive following not by showcasing perfectly airbrushed faces but by celebrating skin imperfections. She started sharing her struggles with acne openly, which resonated deeply with her audience. Instead of covering up flaws, she emphasized self-acceptance and confidence. This authenticity not only strengthened her connection with followers but also led to collaborations with beauty brands seeking to promote a more inclusive message.
While the trend towards authenticity is positive, there are also concerns about its commercialization and potential dilution. As more brands jump on the authenticity bandwagon, there’s a risk of it becoming just another marketing tactic rather than a genuine movement. However, there are still plenty of opportunities for brands and influencers to authentically connect with audiences and drive meaningful change in the industry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was doubting my own worth and capabilities, stemming from a period of being bullied in middle school. During that time, as I started to come into my own and embrace my authentic self, I faced harsh criticism and negativity from bullies that made me feel small and unworthy. It took years to shed those insecurities and rediscover my confidence. Despite the setbacks, I persevered, ultimately embracing my true self and finding success in showing my vivacious personality whether it’s for brand deals all the way to reality shows. This journey taught me the importance of self-belief and resilience, and it’s a lesson I carry with me every day.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Certainly! Here’s how I would craft your response:
—
I had a significant pivot in my career when I transitioned from working in the corporate fashion world to diving headfirst into the realm of social media. It all began with a very public relationship and subsequent breakup, which unexpectedly redirected the course of my career.
Initially, I was deeply entrenched in the corporate side of the fashion industry, navigating the intricacies of trends, marketing strategies, and brand management. However, when my personal life became the subject of public scrutiny due to a high-profile relationship, everything changed.
The breakup served as a catalyst for self-reflection and a reevaluation of my priorities. It led me to explore new avenues for expression and connection, ultimately leading me to embrace social media as a platform for sharing my journey and passions with others.
Making this pivot wasn’t easy. It required stepping out of my comfort zone, learning new skills, and building a brand from the ground up. But through perseverance and determination, I found my voice in the digital sphere, connecting with a global audience and carving out a niche for myself in the influencer landscape.
This pivot not only transformed my career but also allowed me to reclaim my narrative and authenticity. It’s a testament to the power of resilience and adaptability, reminding me that even in the face of unexpected challenges, there’s always an opportunity for growth and reinvention.
