Hi Renee, thanks for joining us today. How has Covid changed your business model?
In 2019 when the idea of starting an online boutique came to my mind, I had no idea of the detriment that our country would face in the oncoming months. I simply thought I would be starting the boutique as an additional stream of income to an already successful corporate career. Little did the world know, Covid was coming to shake life as we knew it up. Originally starting out with selling vintage items from my closet, once Covid shook the world, I knew that I would have to pivot my business model. Pivot (verb) – in business context – “completely change the way in which one does something”. Every business had to figure out the best course of action to “Pivot” during Covid. I started out doing strictly online orders, changing the return/exchange policy due to increased covid cases. I became worried that it would negatively affect ordering as we at Petal by Rose Gold like to ensure customer satisfaction. People love to shop! How could my business create a unique shopping experience for those who are confined to working from home and not ready to go out into public places? I think I spent a great bit of time pondering this until the idea of a Mobile Boutique was presented. I could take the personal shopping experience to my customers! PIVOT! I quickly did my research on associated costs and updated my business plan to reflect opening a Mobile Boutique. Covid created a unique aspect to my business, that garnered attention from the local communities I resided in (both Tallahassee and Tampa, FL respectively).
PIVOT 2021-2022 ! The world has started to reopen, people are returning to their respective workplaces, taking much needed vacations, and everyone is emotionally drained and ready to enjoy life again. Consumers are returning to shop at stores, malls, and other outlets. My next question to myself was “What is next for Petal by Rose Gold?” With things returning back to normal, we are proud to announce that Petal by Rose Gold is opening it’s FIRST Brick and Mortar Storefont in University Mall.
Without the Pivots of Entrepreneurship during Covid-19, I’m almost positive my business would not have had as much success.

Renee, owner of Petal by Rose Gold, a premier clothing and beauty boutique catering originally to women, men, and children, birthed her business from natural talents and effortless ability to stay ahead of the latest trends. Renee is a Florida girl, currently splitting her time between Tallahassee, Florida, and Wesley Chapel, Florida, but her frequent moves as a child and young adult have contributed to her cool and eclectic taste in clothing.
“I was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky,” Renee explains, “but I was raised in Germany, South Korea, Georgia, and Florida. I’ve seen fashion trends from all walks of life and cultures, and these experiences have inspired me to empower women to feel brave enough to try new styles and walk in confidence.”

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Showing up as my authentic fun relatable self, created my social media audience. I try to provide scenarios that are most relatable to my target audience (working class women). Consistency and understanding that you need to show up even on days you don’t want to show up are important to your customer. Understanding that with so many options out there in every industry it’s easy to be just a scrolled by memory if you aren’t staying in front of your customer. Just because you posted something a day ago about a product doesn’t mean your target customer will remember the day after. Think about the ads that you see on social media, you may see something you like and think “I will go back to that later”, SQUIRREL! Now you’re focused on something else and now you’ve completely forgotten about that product. It’s up to the company providing content to repurpose and push those products back out to you, to complete the sale. We are human, we forget easily. Show up!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new customers for me is social media! Making relatable content showcasing my products has garnered new customers with each view. Making sure all content has a call to action (ie Shop Now, Learn More) creates leads.
