We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Renea Reed a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Renea , appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
I don’t know what a vacation is lol. I haven’t taken a vacation in so long and honestly the path that I am on I don’t plan to take a vacation until I am really able to go and really enjoy myself without having to come back to having to deal with issues. Once I meet my goal and there are many lol, I will consider a vacation.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Ohh wow ok where do I start, so I was 15 years old when I started writing poetry. Then I watched this movie called Love Jones and I knew I that was what I wanted to do. In 2020 I started out doing open mics every sunday. And when I tell you that alone took so much out of me financially, with no support and trying to make things happen was my biggest problem. But it was like after all the stress of getting things in order, when the doors opened, I knew I was in my lane, and I believe what sets me apart from so many others was the ability to just be “me ” with every single guest. The vibes that came from those nights were inspiring and incredible. Though I no longer do open mics, it took me further and I began doing comedy showcases and poetry events. Which led me to radio, then talent manager, acting, modeling and writing. The thing I am proud of the most is having the strength and the faith to just keep going. I was burned a lot in this (entertainment) industry. Which I am sure many have, but it’s something to talk about an idea or something you’re working towards putting together with people you trust then turn around and see those same people working with someone they are loyal to with the same idea you gave them. Even now I look through my phone and see idea’s I planned with people I trusted being used for their own benefit. There are so many days where I want to quit and just give up, but GOD won’t let me. So, I take that “L’ pray and keep going. My brand cater’s to the “real” people out here trying to make their way down their own path and just looking for good people to do that with. There are many entities of Renea’s Rhythm Entertainment, (eg. Lyrically Speaking, Jerk, Jokes and Karoke, R & R management, and R & R Publishing ) and other things taking place that I choose not to mention until God has finished with me putting it together. As part of R & R management I was blessed with artist that are absolutely amazing and if it wasn’t for my god brother Mario seeing a hidden talent in me when he made me President of A&R of his record label Mindboggle Ent/1137 / Mutegang , I would have never gone as far as I have on the music side. I can sit here and talk about all the bad situations I have faced that had me truly ready to walk away from it all, but I would rather talk about the triumphs because without faith all of my works would be dead.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I honestly believe staying consistent is what helped build my reputation. When I started at the radio station in 2021, I was a complete introvert. I was one of those (no new friends) people, which of course was due to some really hurtful things that had taken place in my little world. But I was working with a comedian Named Jason, and he referred me to a friend of his who was looking for a Radio Personality and long story short, Now I am just that and more. I worked my butt off constantly without anyone telling me to do so and most of interviews and other things I did with no charge because I was just building my brand. And it pulled me out of my shell, and I began enjoying every moment of it. So, I would say just say stay consistent and know what you want to put out there in regard to your brand.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When it comes to managing a team there is always a challenge. Ego’s, testosterone, hormones, oooh lord lol, it can most definitely send you screaming. But the advice I have is just to always be Extremely real with your team, give them respect and you will get it in return. It’s ok to make sure they know you are there for them, but they also need to know when it’s game time, there is no playing, and they need to take you serious. Remember this team you work with are just as human as you are, they make mistakes, they have human emotions, and they are going through the same life you are. Show them what loyalty is and you will reap the benefits of that if you have a real team on your side. If not those who are will definitely weed out the snakes.
