We were lucky to catch up with Rene Mondy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rene, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Like so many other entrepreneurs who’ve experienced hardship, I’ve personally used the lessons from my own divorce about 16 years ago to stay focused on the fresh and the new. It’s been my reason for dedicating my therapy practice to helping other women going through something similar.
I started a divorce support group for women that met in various locations in Atlanta. Since the pandemic, in-person groups became less and less of a possibility and a prompt to transition my services to virtual became a reality and the online support community for women, Dear John The Box, was born!

Rene, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Sure! I am Rene Mondy, a privately practicing therapist in Atlanta, GA. I specialize in individual and group after -breakup recovery therapy. I am really passionate about helping people find the strength, direction, and healing to navigate and overcome their difficult situations.
I have over 15 years of experience working in mental health. My passion for helping women work through divorce comes from my own divorce years ago, I learned first-hand that not all relationships can be saved or should continue. And I knows first-hand the multitude of emotions one can go through when facing something so life changing. With my extensive experience providing women individual and group therapy, I’m particularly passionate about walking with women through all the stages of a breakup, including deciding if that is the right next step, going through the process of separation, and creating a new successful beginning. Why I founded the online support community for women healing post-breakup, Dear John The Box. There I get to use my extensive experience as a therapist to help women navigate relationship transitions. As well as help bring them closer to their support systems. The company has a link to a registry for shopping for moving and living essentials post-breakup, live chats for added support, and care packages with items backed by science to heal and help women connect with their loved ones.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe marketing my business on Facebook was a big plus. I had 7,000 followers before launching our first service. Already having an engaged audience I believe helped us survey them before hand and tailor products to things they’d like. Which made getting our first few sales easier.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My dad passing last May really tested my resilience and staying power. After my divorce, my friendship circle shifted and so many people helped me succeed often unknowingly by giving me great advice or just taking an honest interest in me. But it was my father that became my best friend and biggest cheer leader. He would call me daily, offer advice on things that seemed small then but are really big to me now, like asking how much I had eaten that day, and when did I schedule time to be social and make friends outside the house. He was my sounding board. But most importantly, he made me laugh. I am really comforted when I remember times we’ve laughed together. They were healing to me then, and even more healing now. He’s one of the reasons I started Dear John The Box. He loved that I was helping other women in shoes I once wore. I know he’d wouldn’t want me to stop my work counseling women. Knowing this gives me the courage to continue.
