Alright, Renata thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?

I think one of the most important things in my business is to have people you can trust and depend on. It took me years to get there . I went through many people I had trusted in who took advantage of me or my business. I was on my own for about 4 years before I started looking for help in my studio .. My first receptionist came through my client and it was a disaster. She was stealing money, performing simple services and I had absolutely no idea . I was really upset . As a business owner you learn something new everyday and I also learned that my sanity is more important than a hectic schedule or making tons of money . I have a big studio and we perform different services by using a variety of modulates . I have amazing stuff now .. My office manager is not only my right hand , but someone I’ve learned to trust. She shares my interest in helping to foster and parent cats and dogs.

. We work closely with rescue organizations and we are very passionate about it So part of my hiring interview process is to find like-minded people . Since I a vegan it is a great bonus for me that all my team is vegan or vegetarian and support my goals The past 18 years in this business taught me a lot . Lots of tears, pain , disappointment but also hopes and happy memories I am grateful for my life lessons whether its personal or work and I am grateful to be still in business and work for myself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

When i moved to this country in 1989, I started working with different make up companies as a make up artist and freelancer. I always wondered why make up sets up differently on different people. On some it looks flawless and others looked terrible . So that inspired my interested in skin care.. I went to skincare school in Atlanta. When finally I passed my state board and got my license, I realized that I know very little about what I am about to do or where would I work . I got lucky . I was chosen by a doctor to work in his office on clients. That is where i learned my craft. I learned what I like to do and what I did not enjoy. I learned procedures, products , good conduct and taking responsibility for my action . I learned to stay on time and give my clients 100% . What set us apart is that we’ve won “”best of”awards 5 years row and I am proud of that because we work really hard to earn them . We use PCA products and I’ve been using them for about 25 years . I think they have great chemical peels and etc.. We serve clients from ages 12 through 75 . We care for them equally . We have men , woman , straight , gay, trans , white , black and all get treated with hugs and respect. We would love people to know more about us and the services we provide . We do facials, microdermabrasion, dermaplanning , chemical and enzymes peels , lipo laser, non invasive butt lift, teeth whitening, RF skin tightening, massages and Infared body wraps . I am grateful for my clients and my team .

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I’ve been open for over 18 years and we have good days and we have bad days . Some months we have to tighten our belts and some months we can play . I never give up on my business or myself . I’ve had weeks we had nobody and it was really hard to survive, pay bills and feed your family , But hunger is the best motivation to be creative . So I would put one foot in the front of the other and move forward . I’ve worked a crazy amount of hours and literally became a robot because I could not do anything besides work and sleep. I rise above rumors, rejection, hurt and still move forward . So please support small businesses because our struggle and success depends on you . No matter how hard it is, never give up!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I had to unlearn to blindly trust every employee to do the right thing. I finally caught one employee stealing, When I let her go, she went on to smear my name on social media.
