We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Renata Jedynecki a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Renata, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I started making mosaics for my self. They decorated my entrance to the patio. They sparkled beautifully in the sun.One day when I invited my friends to meet for coffee in the garden I heard how inspired they were by my works..They asked if they could order something similar from me.I was completely surprised. They said they were unique and original I decided to do it for them and then when they had it,theirs friends wanted it too.By word of mouth at the beginning my art attracted interest. My work slowly began to bring me some income and at the same time great satisfaction what was very important to me.In a short time, creating mosaics turned out to be my life:s passion which I I cant live without now.I decided to pursue artistic path professionally.
I really want to deepen my knowledge and so far I have succeeded.I belong to artistic organizations where we organize meetings, exhibiitions and exchange experiences. My dream come true.
Renata, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Renata Jedynecki. I am artist with a passion for glass mosaic art. I have been creating mosaics art for about 6 years. Before settling in Canada I was working as a nurse in Poland, which is where I was born.Since early childhood I have enjoyed drawing and painting but was not given the chance to pursue these creative arts. The art school was too far from where I lived and was very expensive to pay.So painting remained only in the sphere of my dreams and at most as a hobby. In Canada I was working in various professions like real estate or sales . I was busy, working hard and had always roof over my head but for me was like a living in a room with no windows without ability to create art.
My life changed when I met my future husband and moved from a large very busy area to a very small ,quiet and beautiful village in Tamworth. My husband encouraged me explore what I love to do: creating art.So I started painting.
One day by accident when we were cleaning the garage I came across a beautiful stained glass lamp that was lying on the table and was, unfinished and dusty. There were tools and pieces of glass around it.When I asked my husband where this lamp was from he told sadly that it was unfortunately the unfinished work of his previous wife who was serious ill and died She was creating stained glass art.At that moment I felt the need to finish this lamp and save her work but I didint know yet how I will do it..Finally I had idea that instead of finishing lamp, which was too difficult for me I will take it a part into pieces
and make a mosaic art.I took a one day course for mosaic art and I learned the basics of the glass mosaic technique called glass-on-glass (GOG).The first lesson was the beginning of my love for creating artwork from stained glass.
The art of transforming small pieces of glass in to a mosaic art strikes me as magic. And that’s how my adventure with mosaics began..Glass is a wonderful medium for me and I am always inspired by the endless colors, reflexions ,textures, vibrancy. From sunrise to sunset the colors change, I am delighted how glass captures the light and plays it in a thousand different ways. The result is simply beautiful.
Each mosaic art is a new chalenge, original, unique and take many hours to complete. Each piece of glass is cut individually, then all the fragments are arranged into design, that is hold together by an adhesive to solid base glass and grout. When designing very exceptionally I used any pattern, many of my design are spontaneously created.I just scetch the picture I have in mind, then often experimenting with the colors, shape of glass, textures to achieve the effects I want.
when I make mosaic I want to capture feeling, space and emotion in my work .I love the expierience of being so immersed in the process.I find inspiration from beautiful nature. This is where I found harmony between my love for nature and my art.
i love to create flowers, birds, butterflies, landscapes.the possibiilties are endless.
This passions in creating I want to share it with others and bring to the viewer a moment of joy and happiness.
My art resonates with many people as it often reminds them of specific life events, people, animals, and places. evoking a sense of peace and tranquility or calming effect.
Mosaic art opened up a whole world of opportunity, creativity and excitement to me that i never dreamed before.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Creating mosaic art dements a lot of patience, determination , takes many hours to complete , but the joy of a new creation is amazing!
I love the stained glass and the reflection of light upon the surface.I enjoy the constant decision making this art required when working with material such as glass.I am often thinking how to intrigue the viewers eye and mind? How can I use light and texture to my adventure.I gain a great deal of satisfaction when I create a work that speaks as I intended.
Nothing is as thrilling as creating mosaic art: knowing many people will see and uppreciated my art.
They are many times uplifted. Honored by it is the most rewarding thing to me as an artist.
I love to share my passion with others. This passion is a way to achiive my artistic fullfilment.
The need to create has been in my soul my entire life.I finally have this moment when I can bring out my emotions through creating mosaic art.I I do a lot of commisssioned work which at the beginning of my career it was difficult for me to agree..
I didint know whether I would meet all the client’s requirements. However over time I realized how happy they feel when receiving it..For some people my art brings a sense of relaxation,,harmony, serenity, joy. For others brings memories from happy childhood,or soothes pain or trauma Each one whispers a story.
We are mosaics.Pieces of love ,history, stars…Glue together with magic and words- Anita Krizzan.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would like to share my passion with others through workshops, online courses and other educational resources.. I hope that this lessons will bring them peace, joy, a break from everyday stress,.,balance to the mind and emotions.,
I believe that everyone has the potential to create something beautiful and I am dedicated to helping others develop their skills and realize their artistic potential.
its wonderful to work at something you love .I am most grateful for my mosaic life.
