We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Renata Goos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Renata below.
Renata, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
As a small business owner and operator, we have the difficult task of wearing several hats, so keeping focused on what really matters, what makes you grow and what makes you different can sometimes be really hard. SHINE is a real estate and architectural photography company, so we are a service driven business. And what makes us very special is that attention to details from beginning to end. I like to have a very close relationship with my clients where we almost feel like part of their team. We understand their needs, they preferences and how to take work out of their hands. Our product, photography, plays a lot on the success of my client’s business so we must be in line with their expectations and their industry as well. It takes a lot of training, processes and time. I like to say that we have excellent products but even better customer service. There is nothing like knowing that your business is being handled by another company with the same care as you would.

Renata, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Renata Goos and I am the owner and operator of SHINE photography. SHINE is a Houston based company that provides photography and media services to realtors, interior designers, architects, and business in general. We specialize in photos and videos for spaces and places. SHINE started as a hobby when I decided to leave my corporate career. After having my second child I wanted to be able to have a career that allowed me to choose what to do with my time and have a creative outlet. SHINE came as a combination of my passion for photos with my business background. Founded in 2020 we have now grown from a single photographer to a team of 4. in 2024 YTD we have done over 300 photo shoots and have worked with close to 80 clients. We have a unique way to shoot, incredible eye for angles, and a heavy dedication to client service.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Running a business has taught me that no matter how hard you work not everyone will value and understand everything that goes into the product and service that you provide. I like to educate people around me that we do so much more than just hold a camera and shoot. That in order to deliver a product that is high quality every time in a short turnaround making sure we have each client’s details in mind take a lot of training, process and people. We work with several softwares, systems, and service providers to ensure that. And as much as I would like to work with as many clients as possible I really focus on the ones that understand that and value of what we do.

Have you ever had to pivot?
SHINE is in at pivot moment now, we are reaching a point where we need to grow to meet the needs of new clients making sure we keep the same quality of service. I am talking to peers, business consultants, and other business owners to understand how we will do that and where we want to be in the next 5 years.
There is a fine line to how much I want SHINE to grow. I want to make sure we keep the integrity of what we have been so great doing so far. Its not an easy decision to make, there is a professional and personal impact whatever decision I make.
It is a frightening and an exciting time. More exciting I would say, and I cannot wait to see where it will take us.
