We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Renata Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Renata below.
Hi Renata, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
DreamSpire TV and DreamSpire Publications mission is to provide the biggest stages to highlight excellence in the arts and entrepreneurship. I founded and executive produced an award show for Poets and Neo Soul artists in 2014. Each year we conducted online voting. In 2017 in the six-week voting period we had over 7,600 ballots cast and 10,000 hits to our website. I started what I perceived as a glorified newsletter that same year to keep in contact with our viewership year-round not only during our voting season.
Because of the award show we were already in the entertainment space. We had the privilege to feature Natalie from the 5-time Grammy nominated group Floetry on our first cover. We have gone on to produce three magazines, several streaming television shows, and a platform for authors. We have been credential media for major award shows such as the Stellar, Black Music honors, and The NAACP honors. I feel humbled to have interviewed icons such as Phylicia Rashad, Dr. Mathew Knowles, Keri Hilson and many others.
However, our core values are shining the light on amazing people that might be out the eyes of mainstream media. That is where I get the biggest satisfaction.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be intentional with building your audience. Everyone is not your customer nor is everyone a good fit for your network. Only connect with people who are going in the same direction. Have a plan to capture and retain information. Don’t worry about the likes and number of followers. Aggregate your audience amongst multi platforms not just the most popular ones. Get on other’s platforms to share your message. Build a quality and engaged audience.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I sat there struggling with a question I thought about for years. I was finally in a position of not being a caregiver. My daughter was at peace and my son was out on his own. It was just me. Because the gathering was smaller than usual the audience got a chance to question the panel. My hand shot up. I turned to a complete group of strangers to give me advice about one of the biggest decisions of my life. The moderator called on me. I asked, how do you know when it’s time to leave corporate. I expected some sage answer like save up money, have a solid business plan or other such advice. To my surprise each of these six strangers proceeded to tell me it was time to leave. Not only that audience members began to chime in. One cohort said something that resonated with my soul.
She recounted how she had gone to work one day and just picked a day on the calendar.
Monday morning, I sat at my desk swiveled my chair around to my desk calendar that hung on my cubicle wall and with red marking I circle August 26, 2016. The date was approximately 3-months away.
I was involved in a car accident that hadn’t even gone to first offer. I want to tell you I left corporate on August 26, 2016 and had my settlement check for the full amount of the six-figure policy in my hand that Monday. My attorney was astonished the took the first offer. (excerpt from my book Things I Learned While Packing)
