We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Renata Botelho a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Renata, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Like any and all immigrants who decided to leave their country to try a new life in a totally unknown place, I arrived here with everything I owned in a suitcase, leaving a life of extreme poverty and hunger behind. Not knowing a single world in English and without the slightest notion of what was ahead of me, I arrived here at 20 years old. A year after my arrival I gave birth to my daughter. With 21 years old and a baby to care for, working long hours and Sleeping few hours per night. I didn’t like the image I saw in the mirror, my skin, my body paid the price. I developed extreme rosacea, overweight and no self-esteem. For three years I tried in vain to fix my skin and body. So I enrolled in an aesthetics school determined to heal my skin, my body once and for all. I fell in love with skincare, healed my skin, improved my self-esteem and made it my mission, to help people have the best skin of their lives, in a place where they feel safe and relaxed. This is how “Healing Hands Facial Spa” was born.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Knowledge and continued education paired with exception Customer service. Customer services is the first impression consumers have of your company. In this sense, investing in quality service is the right way to retain clients and build your reputation.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

95% of my clientele is from word of mouth/ referral. The other 5% is from social media and informal networking with other small businesses in the area.
