We recently connected with Renadda Wiggins and have shared our conversation below.
Renadda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Driving from Memphis, Tennessee to Los Angeles, California in one day with no job or place to stay was a daring move, especially after touring with Ebony Fashion Fair, one of the largest African-American tour troops. The journey was a convergence of passion, determination, and the pursuit of a dream.
It all started with the electrifying experience of touring with Ebony Fashion Fair. Being the first young lady from my hometown selected to tour with such a prestigious troop was incredibly validating and made me realize that my dreams were within reach.
Los Angeles, with its vibrant fashion scene and opportunities, became my beacon of hope. I decided to embark on this journey fueled by ambition and a burning desire to share my love and gift with kids with special needs, teaching them how to walk on the runway. It was more than just a risk; it was a leap of faith into the unknown.
Arriving in Los Angeles with no job or place to stay was daunting, to say the least. However, my passion for fashion and my commitment to making a difference kept me going. The city of angels became the canvas upon which I hoped to paint my dreams.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties, my determination remained unwavering. The thought of sharing my love and gift with kids with special needs served as a guiding light through the darkest of times. Every step forward was a testament to my resilience and unwavering belief in my dreams.
As for the outcome, the journey was filled with obstacles and challenges, but it was also a testament to the power of courage and determination. Whether it led to immediate success or presented new challenges, the mere act of taking such a risk was a victory in itself. It was a bold declaration to the universe that I was willing to go all-in for my dreams, no matter the odds.
In the end, the story of this risk is not just about the destination but the journey itself—the moments of doubt, the triumphs, the setbacks, and the unwavering belief that fueled every step forward. It’s a story of courage, determination, and the unyielding pursuit of one’s dreams against all odds.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the founder of The Art of Runway, where we specialize in building confidence for individuals with special needs. My journey into this industry began with a profound passion for working with a young lady with Down syndrome in Memphis, Tennessee. Through this experience, I recognized the challenges families face in understanding and supporting their children with disabilities.
One of the primary problems I’ve observed is the struggle parents encounter in letting go and allowing their children to experience life on their own terms. Many parents set limitations based on their expectations, which can hinder the individual’s growth and independence.
What sets The Art of Runway apart is our unwavering commitment to our purpose. For me, it’s not about the money but about the lives we impact. Every program and service we offer is designed to bring about real, tangible change in the lives of our participants and their families.
I take immense pride in witnessing the transformation and growth of both individuals and families who have been touched by our programs. Our guarantee of results stems from our dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
Ultimately, I want everyone to know that at The Art of Runway, we are more than just a service provider. We are a community committed to empowering individuals with special needs to reach their full potential and live fulfilling lives.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that I needed to measure success solely by financial gain. Initially, I thought that the amount of money I made was the ultimate indicator of my accomplishments and the impact I was making. However, as I delved deeper into my work with individuals with special needs and their families, I realized that true success lies in the positive impact we have on people’s lives, rather than the size of our bank accounts.
The backstory behind this unlearning process involves a shift in perspective and priorities. Through my experiences working closely with individuals with special needs, I witnessed the profound transformations that occur when we prioritize compassion, understanding, and genuine care for others. I began to recognize that the true measure of success is the difference we make in people’s lives, the smiles we bring, and the confidence we help build.
This realization led me to refocus my efforts on the meaningful connections I forge with the individuals I serve and the positive changes I facilitate in their lives. While financial stability is important, it pales in comparison to the fulfillment that comes from knowing I am making a difference in the world. Unlearning the narrow definition of success allowed me to embrace a more holistic and fulfilling approach to my work and life.
