We recently connected with Rena Blank and have shared our conversation below.
Rena , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I definitely have asked my friends and family for help. My fiance is basically an “unpaid intern”. He come to pop ups with me, help me unload the car, set up tables, etc. My mom and sister also come to pop ups and help me out a lot of the time. It truly is a group effort here.
My friends have all modeled earrings for me for photoshoots and as well supported me at pop ups and helped out during them as well.
I think a lot of time folks are a little unsure or embarrassed when they first start their small business to tell the people closest to them about it but truthfully, i found that my friends and family are my biggest supporters.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rena and I am the founder and designer of Daisy Lane Studio. Daisy Lane Studio started out as as a quarantine love project. It was really to fill my void for a creative outlet while being stuck home. I started playing with polymer clay on the dining room table.
We turned into an official studio in 2021! We first launched on Etsy and then moved to our own website. I did my first pop up at Herman’s in Pennsport in June of 2021 and I’ve been doing them ever since!
At Daisy Lane Studio, we create unique, handmade, lightweight polymer clay, resin and pressed flower jewelry, accessories & home decor. We are passionate about creating unique pieces that allow people to express themselves through jewelry and design.
Jewelry is meant to be fun. It is a way to express yourself, show festive flair and make you happy. That is what I hope we can bring to our customers. Fun seasonal styles especially for Halloween and Christmas and creative easy to wear every looks.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I think social media is really about consistency which is really really hard. I think especially when you are creating, I often forget to record but that’s what people love seeing the most, the behind the scenes detail. Record everything and share it! I know it can be scary but the most you share the more likely you are to find your target audience.
I also try to be interactive with polls, and showing my face (definitely the scariest part)!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Pop Ups! The most events I started doing the more I met folks who are interested in my products. I now try to do at least 2-3 pop ups a month whenever possible. Especially with jewelry, I think people want to see and feel in person.
