We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ren Galera. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ren below.
Ren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I absolutely love what I do and what I strive to become however; I would be lying if I said I didn’t wonder if a regular career would be best. I struggle with severe anxiety and I am realizing the career I am passionate about could worsen the issue.
I am 100% a people pleaser and in this industry, knowing you won’t please everyone is key. You have to shake some things off as the music industry is very heavy.
I feel like the more I experience conversations where I can practice being ok with not making someone else happy for my own good, the more I grow in that aspect and anxiety actually decreases.
You gotta make yourself uncomfortable to grow and this year, that is what I’m focused on. Growth.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Latin/pop artist based out of Dallas. I kicked off my career at 19 years old on NBC The Voice Season 16 Team Kelly. I made it all the way to Top 28 and met the most incredible life long friends throughout the process. Prior to The Voice, I was taking voice lessons and shared with my vocal coach that I really don’t like singing in front of other so she suggested I audition for every American Idol & The Voice open calls to practice shaking off the nerves.
The first open call I decided to go to was The Voice and to my surprise I got a call back!
This definitely was the push I needed because this show helped grow in my confidence, voice, and knowledge in the industry.
Right after The Voice, I was reached out to by producers of Telemundos La Voz US asking if I would be interested in auditioning for their season 2 out of Miami.
I saw this as another opportunity to learn and meet other artists passionate about the same craft. I got a call back from this show as well and knew I was on the right path. This show helped me realize that I wanted to not only make it pop music but I wanted to make music in Spanish.
I was born in Mexico and grew up in a very Latin household so it just felt more natural and genuine.
I have been making music ever since with my amazing team at The Creatives Factory and I am absolutely stoked for the things to come!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding part of being an artist is making people feel something through my music. Even those who don’t speak Spanish Can feel the emotion behind my music and that is something I am very proud of. Music is a beautiful way to communicate and help others. I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🫶🏼
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think it’s kind of funny how people will think they know me based off my social media and music thinking I am superficial, mean girl vibes, etc. One thing about the time we live in is social media is used as a brand for a lot of people. Yes, I post fire pics and music videos but that’s not all I am.
I am very excited to release content the shows more of my personality because I am just like you. A girl with a dream.
