We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Remi Le Monde a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Remi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I grew up surrounded by artists and art. Just about every day my dad and I would sit down and he would teach me different techniques on how to draw faces and mountains, little characters, Decoupage, sculpting, collages, everything! My mom is a classically trained musician so she was always playing beautiful music on the piano, singing, and teaching me and my brother to do the same. We were always surrounded by music and learning about art & culture.
I don’t feel there’s any time limit to my learning process. Learning is constant, so I just go with the flow. I’ve also found that trying to speed up the learning process doesn’t help anything.
The skills I feel are most essential, are things like learning the basics and the foundation of whatever it is you’re trying to master. Like right now I want to get better at drawing bodies, so I am focusing on the anatomy. I’ll pick a body part or an angle, and work on that until I feel comfortable. Then, I’ll move on to the next thing.
I am always the obstacle that stands in the way of learning more. Sometimes I’m depressed, unmotivated, burnt out, or I just want to take a break and reset.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well I’m actually at the very beginning of the business aspect of my art journey. I’m completely new to this. I’m not setting any limits to the type of art I want to share, but I’m starting small – my Etsy shop, Remi Le Monde. I’m starting with prints and stickers, but I want to eventually do everything – paintings, clothing, merch, the opportunities are endless, and that excites me.
My brand is highly influenced by black culture, Impressionism, Art Deco, beauty, humor, and my mood. It’s me basically!
Remi Le Monde is more than just the name of my shop. It’s my entire creative space. It can be a physical place or a state of mind.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The freedom and limitless opportunities. I love the way art impacts the world. There’s no rules in art.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m building generational wealth. What I’m putting in to the atmosphere and asking God, is for my art career to grow enough to where I can make it my full time job, purchase land with my husband, raise children, keep a garden, and build homes on our property that can house all of our family members. I want to create all of this doing what I love, which is creating.
