We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rémi Jourdan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rémi below.
Rémi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am passionate about music and helping emerging musicians to manage and grow their careers. To accomplish this mission, I created a digital music platform called Tunetrax, providing self-publishing and promotion to independent artists. I started Tunetrax because I saw the struggles artists were facing in growing their careers when I owned and ran two music venues. I thought I could help to streamline the process leveraging digital media, and to make this all process a little more fun and exciting for artists.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Rémi, a music tech entrepreneur passionate about music. I am originally from Paris, France and currently living in Reno Nevada. You will most likely meet me while hosting shows along the West Coast, producing talent showcases at SXSW or a music festival somewhere around the country. When I am not busy working, I enjoy traveling and meeting like-minded people who are into music and visual art. I also embrace being exposed to different cultures and languages. Fun fact that only very few people know. I did five years of Cordon Bleu Culinary school education back in France, to ultimately become a gastronomic chef, although I was much more interested in music and technology. so decided to move to Los Angeles thirty years ago, rather than becoming a chef and working in a restaurant.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
While there’s more music being made right now than at any other point in human history, there’s also no shortage of disappointments for musicians. For countless hours spent developing musicians, the biggest forms of disappointment in music come in the form of silent rejections, like venues not returning emails or blogs passing on their music without telling musicians why or if they ever even listened to their submission. It’s rough out there, but you already knew that. But what you may not know is just how important resilience is for a musician or anyone involved managing an artist.
I have been running a digital music platform empowering 26K+ artists located amongst 86 countries for almost ten years. No matter how big the challenges remain running my business, I never give up, because the best reward for me that keeps me going, is when a young musician I work with discovers creative magic, finds an audience for his or her music and is finally on his or her path to success.
My resilience is about my ability to withstand, deal with and recover from difficult situations. I will never give up on my mission helping under-represented musicians to succeed. This is my own form of resilience.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I always try to do my best to keep an open mind and welcome new ideas from people I work with. I exhibit transparency in the way I run my business whether it is dealing with musicians or business partners. I always want to give more than what is expected, and I am hoping some of it helps build a good reputation among my music industry peers.
