We recently connected with Rejeaner Burney and have shared our conversation below.
Rejeaner, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission behind my business is that I’ve been doing hair since I was 12 years old.. while all my friends played outside daily with running and playing, I would be inside of the living room doing hair. I saw it as fun and exciting. I also made a lot of money per head wishing was $5-$10 then lol. I would come up with my own styles and create magic. It has always been a gift and a talent. I was self taught of my craft. I begin to do my own hair weekly. I showed off the styles and more people wanted me to do there’s. In those days there really wasn’t phones to take pictures, so word of mouth was my marketing. As years went on, the clients increased. Moving forward as a adult in my 20,s and 30,s I purchased a shed and turned it into a salon in the back of my house. My clients had followed me 10 plus years . I begin to get more clients and was able to market through social media. Again more clients begin to reach out to me. I started to purchase my own hair brand to include in the styles that I was preparing, this was convenient for the clients. After 17 more years of working in the shed, I saw where this was going, not to only be a hobby and something that I loved, put a passion and business. I begin to fill up the shed with the hair and then the accessories that helps compliments the beauty. It was exciting and fun. Clients was able to shop a little for their earrings, bracelets, necklaces, make up and lashes. The shed inventory got larger, but the shed stayed the same size. Fast forward, 2017I went to a program called START ME of Spartanburg. I got interviewed and accepted into the program. I enjoyed the program each week. I learned more about the business side of what was a passion to me. I graduated top winner of my class with perfect attendance along with winning a loan of $5000 to support my business. I graduated 2018 of May and July 2018 I moved into a store front building suite to continue what was becoming a business. I had mentors to help me along the way with what to do next. I put in the hard work, they just guided me on the more professional end of it. I got in my place and it started as me doing hair with a small amount of hair and hair products . As we know that opening up an business is a challenge and maintaining it is an even bigger challenge. My second year in, I got more creative and hungry to grow the business more. I got more clients and customers. People begin to have the door swinging all day long. The business building had much space and I was no where close to filling it up. Another year in, I had a vision of selling clothing. I started getting clothes in and they went like hotcakes. As we grew on that area, I start to get all different categories in clothing for all sizes , races, occasions and more. Each season I would add another category to our brand. We have adults, infants, kids, men, women, and small to plus sizes. At this point we was considered a one stop shop. I had already spoke that into the atmosphere before it happened. I am now styling women daily for any occasion, I put their attire together and then they purchase it from my boutique. My meaningful mission behind this is that I am able to help people to feel confident about who they are and what they are wearing. I help people know that they can have any style that they choose and other opinions don’t matter. It’s very important to be true to what you like and who you are. As I’m continuing this business, God is increasing my knowledge on what’s next. He is letting me know who’s next to help. He is also working on me,while I’m helping work on someone else. I model my clothing every day. I am my own market. I am my own walking billboard. It means a great deal That people create their own style. I am here to help with it all. I often times wear clothing items that are considered bold , but to me it’s a normal wear. This is where I get a kick out of my business is when people come in and say to me, I would have never wore this . I can’t pull that off, it won’t look good on me, I’m too short, I’m too fat, I’m too skinny, that’s too many colors, this too bold. I hear it all, but when they allow me to put it together and see how it looks, sometimes they have to take a moment and deep breathe and cry with Joy. This means a lot to me and the business. My mission is to keep giving my clients and customers what they want and need. To look and feel confident in their own skin. This is taking me to hover heights for myself as well, one thing is that it pushes me to stay fit and in the gym so that I can continue to look great in all my clothes as a walking billboard. My business has open up many doors and I know that there are more for me to walk into. I never knew that as a young child I was built to be a business owner at something that I love to do. We are your one stop shop!!! Fly Girlz and Guyz Beauty and More LLC I AM THAT FLY GIRL

How did you build your audience on social media?
How I built my business on Social Media is that I post daily, I set goals to atleast post 15-20 items a day. I repost the same items as well. Everyone logs on different times so you have to constantly post. Ask people to share your post. Give discounts if they share with others. Share other business items so that they can share yours, we all have different friends I post a lot of grids and videos of clothing and hair styles along with a positive encouraging word. I use all platforms, some do better than others. You have to know your audience and who you attract. You can’t just post one time and think everyone sees it. Give people something to look at. Also make it look great, just don’t throw it up there. Presentation is everything, think of it as if you were the customer, would you buy it. Tagg friends and family in your post. Set alarms as a reminder. Communicate with your audience as they comment, questions and feedback.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy is that I am creating new looks all the time. Each day my business open, I’m still getting brand new people after 5 years. Keeping your business fresh and exciting is very important. As I continue to learn about what’s trending in the season, it keeps clients coming. I’m always investing back into my business . Continue to get educated on what business that you are in. Offer your clients and customers discounts every so often. Example. I did a spin the wheel after they purchase something, this gives them a chance to get something free. I did a fill up a bag for $100 one time. It was a great success. My business has received best fashions, best hair braider, best stylist and more. We have received great feedback from the community and people that are outside of the community. Also give quality in everything that you provide . Improvise a relaxed hair salon chair that allows floor T’s to lay back and be comfortable while receiving services. I provide free snacks while they are getting services. Along with WI-FI when needed .
