We recently connected with Réina Mohan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Réina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for Mera Sona came from my desire to make life easier for myself and my loved ones while ensuring that we were living a healthy lifestyle. It all started with my two cocker spaniels, Koko and Sazi. I had been making a whole-body support supplement for them for over six years, and I saw firsthand how it helped them thrive in optimal health. Wanting to share this with family and friends, I began selling the supplements in 2021, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
But my vision didn’t stop there. In May of 2020, my daughter was born, right in the middle of the pandemic. That pause in life, when everything slowed down, gave me the space to think deeply about what mattered most and allowed the idea for Mera Sona to truly take shape. I’ve always been passionate about health and wellness, and I believe that the best way to heal yourself is from the inside out, using fresh, organic, whole fruits and vegetables.
I also experienced the challenge many people face – trying to find time to prepare nutritious, organic meals while balancing the demands of everyday life. This challenge sparked the idea that became Mera Sona.
I created freeze-dried cubes from organic fruits and vegetables, blending and freeze-drying them into colorful, crunchy cubes that retain 97% of their nutrients through the lyophilization process. I wanted to help people eat healthy without the guesswork, making it easy for busy moms, dads, and even their kids to grab a nutritious snack on the go. My trademarked slogan is “Eat a Rainbow a Day.”
I knew this idea would work because people are looking for healthy, convenient food that doesn’t compromise on nutrition. My product solves the problem of finding time to prepare healthy meals. The shelf-stable cubes offer a convenient option for everyone, from infants to seniors, and they also have a 25-year shelf life when stored properly – something no other snack on the market was offering. This wasn’t just about providing food; it was about addressing a deeper need for sustainability and convenience in a way that fit modern lifestyles.
The emotional part for me was watching how this product, born from a love for my pups and my family, turned into something much bigger. It was the excitement of knowing that Mera Sona wasn’t just a business – it was an idea that could genuinely make life easier and healthier for so many people. The rave reviews and excitement from my early customers validated the fact that I was onto something special. Mera Sona, or “My Gold” in Hindi, creates wholesome, nutritious food, using fresh, certified organic, whole fruits and vegetables. Mera Sona’s mission is “Health and Wellness for Pups and People.”
I’ve taken a unique approach, in the product itself and the packaging – using compostable bags, reusable tins, and recyclable materials to stay eco-conscious. I wanted to make sure that Mera Sona wasn’t just good for people but also for the planet. That’s the part that really got me excited – the chance to create a product that had such wide-ranging benefits, from health and wellness to sustainability.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of Mera Sona, a company rooted in health, wellness, and sustainability. My journey into this industry began long before the business was officially launched. I’ve always been passionate about natural health solutions and how we can use organic, whole foods to heal and nourish our bodies. My background includes a long career in sales and business ownership, where I ran a successful recruiting company from 2006 to 2023. But it wasn’t until the birth of my daughter in May 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, that I truly pivoted toward my passion for health and wellness.
The pandemic gave me a moment to pause and reflect on what was most important to me—my family’s health. When my daughter was born, we decided to use cloth diapers, and I was surprised to find that there wasn’t a cloth-safe diaper cream on the market that met my standards. So, I began making my own. That led me down a creative path where I started making baby lotion and then, eventually, homemade baby food. As I prepared her food, I noticed how beautiful and colorful the blends were, which sparked the idea to create freeze-dried rainbow cubes made from organic fruits and vegetables.
What sets Mera Sona apart is our commitment to making nutritious eating effortless, delicious, and sustainable. Our flagship product is freeze-dried cubes, which retain 97% of their nutrients thanks to the process of freeze-drying (or lyophilization). These cubes come in all the colors of the rainbow and are made from organic fruits and vegetables, offering a convenient, healthy snack for the whole family. They’re perfect for busy parents, kids, and even infants when reconstituted with water. With a shelf life of 25 years, our cubes also solve the problem of food waste and make healthy eating accessible, anytime and anywhere.
In addition to the rainbow cubes, I also make freeze-dried candy and other health-focused products. What ties all of my products together is the emphasis on sustainability. Our packaging is fully eco-conscious: compostable bags, reusable tins, and recyclable or recycled packing materials. It’s not just about feeding people—it’s about doing so in a way that’s kind to the environment.
The core problems I’m solving with Mera Sona are the time constraints people face when trying to eat healthy and the need for convenient, organic food options that don’t compromise on nutrition. I believe I’ve created a solution that fits seamlessly into people’s lives without sacrificing their values.
What I’m most proud of is the ability to combine my love for family, health, and sustainability into a brand that’s not only helping people eat better but also doing so in a responsible, eco-friendly way. Mera Sona is a reflection of everything I believe in, nourishing ourselves with organic, whole foods, respecting the planet, and making health and wellness accessible to everyone.
If there’s one thing I want potential clients or followers to know, it’s that Mera Sona is about more than just a product—it’s about a lifestyle that prioritizes health, wellness, and sustainability for both people and the planet. Whether you’re a busy parent, someone who values organic eating, or someone seeking to simplify healthy habits, Mera Sona is here to make your journey easier.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One story that truly illustrates my resilience happened early on when I was developing the Whole Body Support supplement for dogs. Originally, it was a frozen product that I was packaging in glass jars. I spent months perfecting the recipe, carefully packaging each jar, and storing them in my freezer, feeling proud of the progress I was making. Then, we went on a family vacation. While we were out of town, disaster struck—my freezer went out, and I lost all of the product. Hours and hours of hard work were gone just like that!
It was a crushing moment. I had put so much energy and care into this project, and suddenly it was all wiped out. But rather than giving up, this setback forced me to rethink my approach. I had a freeze-dryer that I had purchased for another business idea, and I wondered what would happen if I freeze-dried the Whole Body Support supplement instead of freezing it. That’s when everything changed.
The freeze-dried product came out even better than I could have imagined! The cubes were light, crunchy, and turned into a freeze-dried treat for dogs. It was a complete game-changer. What started as a major setback ended up pushing the company in a new, more innovative direction. The freeze-drying process not only solved the problem of relying on freezers but also created a product that was more versatile and shelf-stable.
That experience taught me an important lesson about resilience—setbacks don’t have to be the end of the road; they can be the very thing that leads to a breakthrough. It would have been easy to give up after losing all of that product, but instead, it became the catalyst for creating something even better. Today, the Whole Body Support supplement for dogs is one of the many products I offer through Mera Sona, and that moment of failure turned into one of my proudest successes.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Yes, I do manufacture all of my products myself. I blend, freeze, and freeze-dry the ingredients to create the colorful, nutrient-packed cubes that Mera Sona is known for. It’s an incredibly hands-on process, but one that I’ve grown to love as it allows me to ensure the highest quality and care goes into every batch.
My journey started in a much more humble setting—my home kitchen. I was working under the Food Freedom Act, which allows small producers to make and sell certain foods from home. That was where I first started blending organic fruits and vegetables, freezing them in silicone molds, and experimenting with the freeze-dryer to create rainbow cubes. It was a learning process, but one that allowed me to perfect the product.
As demand grew, I knew I needed to scale up, so I transitioned to a commercial kitchen and obtained my food manufacturing license. This was a significant milestone because it gave me the ability to produce larger quantities while maintaining the quality that my customers expect. It also meant meeting strict food safety standards, which is incredibly important to me.
One of the key lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of being adaptable. When you manufacture your own product, especially as a small business, there are always unexpected challenges—whether it’s sourcing ingredients, fine-tuning the freeze-drying process, or even dealing with something as simple as packaging materials. Every step has been a learning experience, but it’s also allowed me to have complete control over the quality of my products, which is something that makes me proud.
Another lesson is that scaling a production process requires careful planning and attention to detail. What works in a home kitchen doesn’t always translate smoothly to larger-scale production. I’ve had to continuously tweak my processes to ensure consistency and efficiency as the business has grown.
What’s most rewarding about manufacturing everything myself is knowing that each cube reflects the love and care I put into my work. It’s an intimate connection to my product that I wouldn’t trade for anything, and I believe it’s part of what sets Mera Sona apart.
