We recently connected with Reina Choi and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Reina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
What truly sets me apart is not just how much I work but the fact that I’m able to handle a high volume of clients while consistently delivering stable, high-quality results.
I’ve worked with countless clients over the years, often seeing 6 to 7 clients a day, and sometimes even more. That level of hands-on experience has given me an intuitive eye. The moment I see someone’s face, I can immediately identify what design would complement their features best and what areas need enhancement. That kind of instinct doesn’t come from theory or training alone. It comes from doing the work every single day across many different faces and skin types.
Personally, I believe it’s very difficult to grow significantly as an artist by working on just one or two clients a day. Of course, quality matters more than quantity, but in my case, I’ve been able to build a system that allows me to do both. Because I’ve refined my process over time, I can work efficiently without ever cutting corners. Every client receives my full attention, and every result reflects both experience and precision.
My studio is consistently fully booked, often weeks or even months in advance. Even during short business trips, I see dozens of clients in just a few days. Many of them take time off work or travel from out of town just to see me. That level of demand is something I deeply appreciate, and I see it as a reflection of the trust my clients place in my work.
In the past, there was this idea that high-end artists should limit how many clients they take to preserve quality. But today, clients are looking for professionals who’ve proven themselves through both volume and consistency. They want artists who can handle a busy schedule without sacrificing results.
For me, it’s never about looking busy. It’s about having the discipline, systems, and experience to manage high demand while delivering reliable, refined outcomes. That, to me, is what true professionalism looks like in this industry.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m a permanent makeup artist who helps clients feel more confident in their everyday lives, not just by enhancing their appearance but by helping them reconnect with their natural beauty.
What started as a general interest in the beauty industry has grown into something much more meaningful. Over time, through countless client reviews and personal stories, I came to realize that this work isn’t just about pigment or precision. It’s about how people feel when they wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and finally see a version of themselves they love. When a client tells me, “I finally enjoy looking in the mirror” or “I’m not afraid to take off my makeup anymore,” I’m reminded of just how powerful and emotional this work can be.
While some still see permanent makeup as simply adding color, I approach each face with much more intention. Every client is different, and I carefully study their facial structure, skin tone, muscle movement, and natural expression to design results that are flattering, balanced, and truly custom. This is never a one-size-fits-all service. My process starts with a thoughtful consultation, followed by a personalized design that enhances each client’s unique features. I also stay up to date on the latest techniques and industry standards to ensure top-quality service.
I currently run a studio in Orange County and regularly travel to cities like San Francisco and New York, where I’ve built a strong and loyal client base. I offer services including brows, eyeliner, lip pigmentation, and correction work. Many of my clients come to me after having unsatisfactory results elsewhere, and helping them restore their confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
I’m also in the process of opening a second location in Koreatown, Los Angeles, to better serve the growing number of clients in the LA area. I’m excited to expand and create a space that’s even more accessible while maintaining the same level of care and quality.
My studio stays consistently booked, often weeks or months in advance. These days, clients are more inclined to trust artists who are in high demand but still maintain consistent results, and I completely understand why. Being able to deliver that level of quality while working at a high pace is something I take great pride in. Behind that is a system I’ve developed over years of hands-on work, along with strong discipline and a commitment to continuous improvement.
What I’m most proud of is that my clients don’t just see me as a technician. They see me as a trusted beauty consultant, someone who listens, understands, and helps them feel more like themselves. My philosophy has always been to create beauty that feels natural and timeless. Not overly trendy, not forced, just truly and confidently you.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I believe trust is the most valuable asset in my work. My goal is not just to offer a one time service but to build long term relationships with my clients. That is why I put a lot of care into every step, from the initial consultation to aftercare. I truly believe that treating each client with sincerity and respect naturally shows in the final result.
Our studio is known for having a high rate of client referrals. In fact, most of our new clients come through word of mouth rather than paid advertising. I think that speaks volumes about the level of trust our clients have in us. There have been many cases where someone came in for a service, loved the results, and then booked an appointment for their mom, sister, or best friend. On days when an entire family visits one after another, I am reminded of how meaningful that trust is and I never take it for granted.
I also use Instagram as a way to stay connected with my clients by sharing my work, thoughts, and daily moments. It helps people get to know me not just as an artist but as a person. When that personal connection is built, it naturally leads to brand loyalty. And in my experience, true loyalty always starts with sincerity, and sincerity brings more referrals than anything else.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my reputation was built through a combination of consistent quality, transparency, and genuine care for each client. From the beginning, I focused on delivering results that speak for themselves while making sure every client feels heard and understood. I never rushed appointments, and I always prioritized long term satisfaction over short term gain.
In the beauty and PMU industry, word of mouth travels fast. I’ve had many clients who came to me after seeing healed results on their friends or family. I also openly share my work process, client feedback, and even occasional imperfections on social media. I think being honest and approachable helped people trust me more.
At the end of the day, it is not just about technical skill. People remember how you made them feel. Building a reputation takes time, but staying consistent and sincere is what made the biggest difference for me.
