We were lucky to catch up with Reginald Rice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Reginald, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
As a creative I earned my 1st dollar off my 2nd chance at music. Originally i was in a group i had just went solo and started working with all these new producers. The album that came about was a collaboration called “Spilluminati” it brought me back into the light locally and brought me my 1st music residuals nationally.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well I’ve been in the industry since i was 19. I got my start with my friends earlier on as a group known as BSMG. We did a lot on the local scene in Alabama before the buzz just died down so I ended up pushing my own campaign as a solo artist. As far as services I’m a writer and executive producer i can definitely help with the pen. Im also in the fashion world with my own clothing brand “Hat Monster” which i was taught graphic designs by a friend and ive been designing my own stuff ever since. The things im really proud of honestly that i was able to show how creative I am that means the most to me. I’ve learned the business of everything I’ve done thats an accomplishment too but what means the most is just being able to chase the dreams and live in the moment. People really appreciate just seeing you thrive whether they’re fans or just observers. So all in all I’m just happy to be a example for everyone that your talent doesn’t have to just be wasted money doesn’t determine success fully…. it’s great to have it yes but what drives you in business in your ambitions your creative nature is all the impact you have on other people. So yeah I’m just proud i get to express myself and represent my people (family friends and colleagues alike) well out here in the world and im adding more skills to my resume I haven’t stopped …to anyone reading this just keep going dont stop cause endurance is the test that creates fulfillment
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn a thought process where in my mind if im stand-up everyone else is stand-up just cause you do the right thing doesn’t mean everyone else will but you cant be mad at them.. because thats really just the world its not all peaches and flowers separate your emotions from about 85% of things going on cause its not about you there’s always a bigger picture
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing the joy your creation brings others watching people listen to my music or wear my clothing with great enthusiasm is a real great thing for me cause it means im on the right path and im making someone else proud of the talents i have
