Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Reginald Baylor III. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Reginald, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is inspire people to persevere throughout life. The mantra of my brand, Twelve Rounds, is; “No matter what fight you’re put up against in life, no matter how hard or how many times you get knocked down…get back up, keep swinging, and finish the fight.” In my youth I was well aware that the world isn’t full of joy. As an adolescent, I experienced depression, anxiety, and even contemplated suicide many times. When I was a teenager, I learned that I was born with a heart defect which led to an open-heart surgery operation at age 16. After surgery, I finally felt like a real member of my family because they all have came face-to-face with death. My mother was shot in the leg with a stray bullet as a teen parent, my brother was stabbed in the chest, and my grandmother was shot three times in the head at pointblank range. These are the people that built the foundation of my morals and principles. They taught me respect, love, loyalty, and perseverance and because I spent most of my time around them I picked up all of those qualities which in turned helped me through some of the hardest times of my life. Sometimes life does get hard, but giving in is NEVER an option. Even if you are taking L after L, the only thing you can do is Keep Swinging. It’s not over until it’s over and that’s when you finish the fight.
Reginald, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Reginald Baylor III, from Baltimore, MD. I started my clothing brand, Twelve Rounds, in 2016 and made it to inspire fortitude for people persevere through all of life. I have always had the power of influence, an interest in fashion, and a heart to change the world. While in college I was moved to take a leap of faith and try something I always wanted to do. I made a path for me to utilize my creative and leadership skills, my passion for life, and my powerful mind to help others get through life. The Family of Fighters always expresses their gratitude for Twelve Rounds whether it’s the story, the mindset, or the way the clothes make them feel invincible. I am truly proud of the fact that Twelve Rounds now lives not only as a clothing brand, but as an idea that lives in people’s minds. It has became a voice and a reason for many people to not give up. That reassures me that my work is successful.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I started my company I did not have any social media accounts, a logo, a website, any knowledge on how to even produce apparel or create designs. I didn’t have anything you may think you need to start. All I had was an idea and belief in myself. It was either going to work or it wasn’t, but I had to find out. It was the beginning of me trying, failing, trying, failing, succeeding, trying, failing, and so on. Everything I’ve built so far was by me learning, trying, failing, and trying again.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believed what has helped build and solidify my reputation is consistency. No we don’t have frequent releases throughout the year, however the purpose remains the same. The message continues to stay clear and relevant. There is no sales pitch or gimmick, we are an authentic brand and that makes all the difference.
