We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Regina Robinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Regina below.
Regina, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents have always been supportive of my dreams but it was my mother who set the tone for greatness. My mother always believed in me. She has always been my biggest cheerleader. My whole life she told me I was beautiful and smart and that God had great plans for my life. It makes a big difference when you grow up hearing these words about yourself. It becomes what you believe.
I remember being in the 7th grade and being really upset because I felt like I was really different from everyone else. I have always felt different, like I didn’t fit in. After school one day, I was sitting in the car with my mother in the yard at my grandparent’s house, and I was telling her how I was feeling. I told my mother that I just wanted to be normal like everyone else. She looked at me and said, “Suck it up. You are not like everyone else. You are set a part, and God has great plans for your life.” In that moment, I didn’t fully understand but those words have stayed with me my whole life. Whenever I have doubts or face challenges or defeats, I go back to her words, and I press on.
I know that I have achieved the level of success I have because she believed in me and raised me to believe in myself. I am who I am because of her, and I am forever grateful.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my baby sister Pamelia Stanley. In 2008 we had a conversation that we were living average lives and that we were created to be better than average. So we created an accountability team where we had to email each other everyday and tell what we had done to move forward to towards reaching our dreams, goals and fulfilling our purpose. As the big sister, I knew Pam would get her stuff done and I couldn’t let the little sister out do me. LOL. During this process, we recognized that everyone woman could benefit from having someone who loved her hold her accountable to be everything God created her to be. From that, we started our first company, EWATE (Empowered Women Accountable To Each Other). And that’s where our first business partnership began.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Most people who know me know me as a Motivational Speaker and a Talk Show Host. Long before I took on those roles, I was a volunteer for many different women’s organizations, girls mentoring groups and at many women’s empowerment events. So when I stepped out to do these things in business, many around me already knew my heart through my service. The bookings to speak and to get people on my show were really easy because the industry I was building business in was the very industry where I had given my time, my gifts, and my financial support. So they welcomed me with open arms. My reputation of love proceeded me and once I hit the stage, the anointing on my life gave me credibility to move in those spaces.
