Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Regina Quesada Reynoso. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Regina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
A popular friend from the Bay area, Piña, gave me a shout out on instagram. Is then when i started to have clients in the US. Travelling a lot and going from tattoo studio to tattoo studio also helped me to grow and lastly when the famous artist Melanie Martinez asked me to tattoo her is when i reached the point of where my career is at the moment.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Ive drawn all my life, studied Graphic design on collage and have been working on my career as an illustrator since i was 18 years old.
In the middle of collage is when tattooing came into my path, a friend tought me how to do it, i started tattooing friends and it has been 10 years now since that very first moment.
Ive now been trying to take my carrer to other places and had a solo show as an artist in Casa Lü sur, Mexico city
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I feel very proud of the hard work ive put into my business. I started working as a graphic designer while i was still in collage, this was around 2012, i saved the money i was making on that job and with that is that i paid for all my tattooing equipment i bought on 2015, aswell as all the art supplies i needed in the moment for any of my work. The first moment i started to sell merch with my illustrations on them it was also funded by my graphic design job that i quited on 2019 when i was ready to live just from tattooing.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started with posting one drawing every day, that was my goal and it didnt matter how simple or elavorated the drawing was it just had to be one daily, this was in 2015 when tiktok or videos on instagram didnt existed so to be honest making content was way easier than now, i just had to post one picture of a drawing every single day. I would also try to go as a vendor to illustration events where i would share my social media and make contacts that would help me grow. Working at different tattoo studios would help me since they would always share my profile, meeting new people from city to city, and lastly getting shout outs from famous people. I would sometimes send my merch as gifts to influencers so they would promote me.
