Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Regina Maloney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Regina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I first started my journey in aesthetic nursing while I was working as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care approximately 4 years ago. I had gone back to school to obtain my Doctorate in Nursing Practice after being at the bedside for 7 years and was certain my calling was being a primary care provider. I met Jamie Smith, Owner of GLO Facial Rejuvenation, through a friend who had received services from her and was instantly drawn to her vision of making aesthetic services available to all no matter socioeconomic status. After all it was the reason I perused rural primary care practice. I attended aesthetic training through GLO and instantly saw the unique complexity to being an aesthetic nurse and the joy and confidence I was able to provide to my patients. I immediately felt a change of heart and that my professional practice was meant for aesthetics. After being a full-time primary care provider and part-time aesthetic nurse for a year I made the decision to make aesthetics my full time career and fast forward 4 years, I now own my own Medical Spa, Glogeous Aesthetics & Wellness, in Wentzville, MO. Being a business owner and aesthetic injector has it challenges, but the experiences, patients, and colleagues I have met along the way have exceeded any professional goals or visions I have every had.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia with my Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2013. After working part-time in aesthetics and full-time as a provider in a primary care practice I decided to take a risk and follow my heart to become a full-time business owner and aesthetic nurse injector. After several years, I had a strong desire to research and conceptualize an IV Infusion training program for the nurses of GLO Facial Rejuvenation to be able to offer aesthetic wellness services for their patients. I now coordinate and lead over 60 nurses in their own IV practices to offer safe, efficient IV vitamin therapy.
At Glogeous Aesthetics & Wellness we have three certified nurse injectors providing medical grade treatments including: neuomodulators (tox), dermal fillers, hydrafacial, SkinPen microneedling, Platelet Rich Plasma, IV/IM Vitamin injections, facial resurfacing treatments, Sculptra, and Kybella services. In addition, our nurse Heather Holmes is certified through the National Association of Sports Medicine as a Certified Nutrition Coach providing guidance to patients to achieve their lifestyle change goals. We also offer custom massage therapy through Lindsay Buechler, a license massage therapist of 15 years.
Through our practice we strive to do what’s right for the patient. We will never oversell our services but rather create a care plan that fits our patients goals and desires. Restoration and prevention guide our practice with a less is more approach. You will always leave feeling and looking your natural self. Look good, feel good, do good is our mission.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
The most helpful variable to succeed in Aesthetics & Wellness is focusing on the greater good. Providing services for my patients is the most important part, but only a small part of what I do. So many times we focus on getting through our work day and punching the clock, however owning an Medical Spa and providing for my patients is a 24/7 commitment. One of which I couldn’t live without. The engagement with my patients to provide safe, cost effective treatments is a number one priority in my practice. The greater good translates to the “benefit of the public, of more people than oneself”. No amount of training or education can teach you to live by this. You have to position yourself as the patient in your chair and conceptualize a plan to achieve the greater good.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think most would agree that the field of Aesthetics as grown rapidly in the past several years. We no longer feel a strong stigma associated with receiving self-care services. I believe the way I have built my reputation in Aesthetics is through my “chair-side manner”. Taking the time to address my patient’s concerns, questions, and treatment goals at their visit is of the upmost importance to me, no matter how long it takes. Developing a treatment plan for my patient and making them feel confident that we will work together to achieve those goals creates a feeling of community and trust. A large majority of my patients I now call friends.
