We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Regina Larko. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Regina below.
Regina, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
When we look at podcasting industry standards we see a couple of trending themes: how to make the podcast production sound good, how to create engaging content, how to grow and monetise the show. My approach is to add on the – in my experience – most important layer in the podcast creation process. I look at the podcast creators. I acknowledge and help them overcome doubts if they have important things to say or if anyone would listen. I am bringing each individual’s personal, professional and impact goals into their podcast creation process as I coach my clients on mindset and strategies that get them the results they desire. In an industry that is driven by download numbers and growth goals I am focusing on the human behind the podcast instead.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
This is always the hardest question to answer. How to pack a life in a few sentences? But I’ll try. My path took many twists and turns. Like that moment I decided to get into China Studies as a high school graduate. This led me to living abroad in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong for more than a decade. Now I recently returned to my hometown Vienna/Austria where my husband and I are making a home with our three small kids.
One of the things that always inspired my profession is my curiosity and my love for nurturing and building relationships. That’s what got me into podcasting, starting my own show #impact in 2017. I wanted to interview people that make a social impact with their work. I wanted to understand how they do it, and to learn from them. As soon as I launched my podcast in Hong Kong people reached out and wanted to learn from me about podcasting and that’s where my teaching and coaching practice started.
I’m proud of building and growing my business as our little family grew, moving cities and countries. Supporting my clients from all over the world across time zones to get their voices and messages out in the world in such an intimate way is incredibly rewarding. I get to work with Non Profits and individuals that would have otherwise not have the platform or courage to get their stories heard.
I am also constantly learning and working on my own craft so I can coach my clients in the best way possible. I do that with my 1:1 Coaching Programmes as well as my Online Podcasting Course where I am giving my clients all the tools and strategies they need to find success with their own productions.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Hands down – referrals. I used to spend a lot of time on social media which led to very limited engagements and sales for my services. Nowadays I focus on nurturing my existing network of clients to generate high quality leads and it works really well.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There is this concept of 1000 true fans, you probably have heard about it. I just love the idea of building a community of loyal fans that absolutely adore what you do and then providing your services around their specific needs. Once I realised that I don’t have to rely on build a huge following to run a thriving, impactful business, things really started to fall into place for me.
