We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Reggie Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Reggie below.
Hi Reggie, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am enamored by the tremendous impact that beauty pageants have on the social, emotional, academic and professional development of women.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My introduction to pageantry was totally by accident. I was always intrigued by the productions and telecast, but when I asked to participate in a male pageant on campus I was able to see the preparation, uncertainty, and hard work that it takes from all involved participants, directors, and producers. Since learning the key component of the interview process, I learned that it is easier to communicate who you are based on what you have done to get there. Most important is the legacy that each young lady creates during her reign. The crown is only valid for one year (prior to the pandemic), but the impact lasts a lifetime. The crown is very endearing, but it does not define the success of the young lady. The thing that separates me from others is that I do not consider myself a pageant coach because as a college educator, I am more concerned with using the crown to develop her voice and shape her perception about setting and attaining goals…after the crown. I have young ladies who were in middle school that have now graduated from college and are married with outstanding careers. This is in no way saying that I do not enjoy the stage presentation, sass, glitz and glamour.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I chose this because while there is nothing I wish I had known, I marvel the discovery and evolution of myself and the young ladies that I have encountered. In fact, I have been able to embark upon the journey of so many that I learn more about myself and have been blessed to see myself through the eyes of others. As a minority, black man, in the industry, when parents trust their daughters success with you, it is inexplicable. Perhaps, had I known how much I would grow, I would have done too much to increase my own growth and lost sight of the real winners.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The mission driving me is the fact that this is not my primary career. This is the perfect compliment to an often challenging career as an academician.
