We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Reggie Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Reggie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to build a successful life fueled by resilience, adaptability, and my deep passion for football. This mission is meaningful because it embodies how I’ve transformed challenges into opportunities. A couple of years ago, I attended DeMatha Catholic High School, a prestigious institution where I competed against some of the top football players in the nation. Despite my dedication, I graduated without scholarship offers but received two Preferred Walk-On (PWO) opportunities from Temple University and Delaware State. I ultimately committed to Temple as a PWO, determined to make the most of this opportunity.
Being a football player at Temple has opened doors for me, particularly through NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals. These partnerships allow college athletes to earn money by leveraging their personal brand, either through athletic performance or social media influence. My journey into social media began during my junior year of high school when I started posting on TikTok. Initially, I made videos on trending topics like dance challenges, but they didn’t gain traction. I realized I needed to align my content with my passion—football.
This shift in focus was a game-changer. My football videos resonated with viewers and helped me build a following of over 15,000 by the time I arrived at Temple. With that base, I began securing NIL partnerships, earning money while sharing my love for the game. Over the past year at Temple, I’ve grown my TikTok following by another 10,000 and have earned over $10,000 through these deals. Beyond financial gain, this journey has solidified my identity as a social media influencer and connected me with fans both online and in real life.
Living in Philadelphia for over a year has also broadened my perspective. I’ve come to realize that success isn’t solely tied to football; it’s about diversifying my efforts. Football won’t last forever, but social media offers a lasting platform to share my passion and create opportunities. This experience has taught me the importance of building multiple pathways to success, and I’m committed to making the most of every one of them.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by making relatable videos about football and other sports. I went to a school that was filled with future superstars in the sports world. We were all friends and all talked about our sports. we talked about the good and the bad, which allowed me to find my niche. I would start making videos on the good things people like about sports and the bad things people hate about their sport. This factor has allowed me to gain over 27,000 followers.
My main advice for any future influencer, find your niche. Find something your good at outside of social media and start making videos about it. I don’t care if its about painting, there is a huge market for art fans. just take the risk and start making videos on things you like and someone will noticed you.
