We were lucky to catch up with Reesey GotIt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Reesey, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Maaan, look. I knew music was my love language when it first spoke to my soul as a child. Im 23 today, my first console was a PS2 and my first game was Vice City. I was like 4-5 years old, listening to Michael Jacksons Billie Jean as its the first song you hear when you start playing. Ever since then ive been infatuated with what people call “the 80s”. The colors, the fashion and most importantly the music. If I was making music during the 80s, Michael Jackson would have to step it up not even gon lie to ya. Especially if I was from the future lmao. Im so picky with music now because my ears are trained on good music. Im very passionate about what I allow my ears to hear and what I create. I am music in human form, music is me in art/sonic form. I was put on this planet to express that and change lives in the process. Ive been making music since 8 years old, im 23 and I havent slowed down at all. And to keep it a band-aid, I think the majors know about me by now and they know im a big deal. But they can only gatekeep me for so long until its time to flood!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Reesey and I am the artist. The artist that everybody knows but doesnt know. The artist of everyones favorite artist favorite artist. I was born to be myself but different from the masses. I stand out undeniably with my talents, very hard to ignore. I ended up in this side of the music industry just being myself and going to where im loved and wanted. Me being me and doing everything alone, I am of great benefit to alot of artists. I engineer, produce, write, play instruments, graphic design & sound design. I set myself apart from the rest of the world simply by being myself. I know my brain & system is wired differently from the average person. I dont think in 1 straight line, I think in 10 straight lines which allow me to see the final product/result of an idea, sound, image, etc. What im proud of the most is my growth, I wouldve never thought Id be creating the art I create. I know my younger self would be so stoked to come across anything I make. I want the world to know there are still special beings out there and every artist is different. I could bring the world together just by being heard. I make music for the entire milky way, I just know aliens would fwm, lol. Last but not least, if you are observant, quiet and have high self awareness, id suggest you making music. When you have a certain level of awareness, you know what fine art is. Youll never miss a shot when you please yourself first!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In todays society, a great way to support artists is being honest and listening to them. Dont tell your friend they are good because theyre your friend. Help them improve. We have so many untalented artists because people dont tell the truth, they just want them to feel good or to shut up. Tell the truth and be reasonable!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I just love when people tell me personally about a song I made. I love when they break it down, share their favorite pieces such as lyrics, timestamps, memories, etc. No better feeling than somebody else being in love with your creation that you also love.
