We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Reena Majithia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Reena below.
Alright, Reena thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Going from the healthcare field to business owner was not an easy road.
I started as a CNA right out of highschool. Worked as a CNA for 5-6 years doing homehealth and then transitoned to working in the hospital.
I then went to nursing school and was unsuccessful in a program.
Had thoughts of changing career paths after a program director told me that nursing isnt for everyone and that maybe i needed to consider a different track.
Used this as fule to the fire got into another school , graduated , recieved accecptance into a crital care residency program and my dream job as an ICU nurse.
Continued carrer as an RN in the ICU, Surgical Services, Cardiac Services and Occupational Health.
I transitioned to working from home as an RN to be able to further my education , achieving my BSN , and my MSN with a specialty as a Family Nurse Practitoner.
All while holding on to a dream of becoming a business owner one day just like my dad.
After completeing my masters degree I decided to look in to business options.
My sister was an esthtician who owned her own business and this peaked my interest into esthetics as an addition to my nursing career.
I then worked full time as a nurse practitioner during the day and attended an esthetics program in the evenings for 10 months.
Soon after completing my esthetics course I decided to open my own esthetics practice focusing in skin care with hopes adding on medical esthetic services in the near future.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi friends! I’m Reena the owner and esthetician at SKN NP! I have been in the nursing field for 11 years and the esthetics industry for a little over a year. My background is in critical care, telemetry, pre surgical services and occupational health. I love healthcare and my mission has always been to help people feel better. Helping others whether it be through my nursing role or my esthetics role is my priority. I am able to help people feel better and more confident about themselves in both roles which is why I continue to work as a nurse practitioner and esthetician. I enjoy my esthetic role as it allows me to help clients with their skin care needs and being able to see the confidence that peaks when they leave with glowing skin is my favorite part! At SKN NP I specialize in customized facial treatments, hydrodermabrasion, dermaplaning, eyebrows, and facial waxing with the hope of adding on injectables in the near future.
If I have had the pleasure of meeting you already… thank you for being here and supporting my little dream. If we have yet to meet… I can’t wait to meet you and work towards your skin care goals together!
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
My clients and brand loyalty are the most important thing about business. Without my clients my business is nothing and I take this very seriously.
I pride by self in providing a relaxing and trusing enviornment for all clients.
I keep an open line of communication with them in what to expect for thier service.
I also follow up with them 24 hours after their service to ensure they are still seeing the results they were wanting to achieve as well as to ensure they are not having any adverse reactions.
I allow for plently of time betwenn each client to my services do no feel rushed.
I appreciate all of my exisiting clients and thank them every chance I am able to.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I had to unlearn was complacency. I hated change growing up. It used to give me a lot of anxiety and I would come up with multiple plans for situations should plan change. This became exhausting. I soon learned that sometime we have to roll with the punches as life will always throw you a curve ball when you least expect it.
Learning this has come in so handy in business as its always changing and you have to be able to adapt and move on to continue being successful.
