Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Reece Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Reece thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first realized that I wanted to be a musical artist when I was young. When I was an adolescent, I use to freestyle rap with my siblings. From then on, I joined band when I was in high school and found a passion in music. Learning the fundamentals in music, I began to broaden my palette and learn the different genres that music had to offer. From there, I zoned in on West Coast styled music with a secondary focus in R&B, since it is what I primarily listen to and what I have grown up around.

Reece, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first began releasing music when I was about 16 years old, back in 2020. Since then, I have expanded to producing beats for songs, collaborating with artists of similar interests, and creating a brand with my name. I have done numerous collaborations with songwriters, producers, and artists within my hometown Santa Cruz that have contributed to my overall discography of unique music. In the future, I hope to produce beats and provide verses for artists of various genres and further expand my style.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I think the main goal of any artist is to touch somebody’s heart, you know? Relate with somebody. I do think that music is not always going to be liked by some people, but an artist’s goal is to relate to and affect somebody’s life. Aside from that, I think my goal is to show that an artist does not need to be constrained by one genre. Artists need to express every emotion they feel, not just the emotions that are popular or what people expect of them.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is interaction. When somebody tells me how my song makes them feel, that is the most rewarding part of the job. I create music that makes me feel a certain way, and when somebody else can relate to that and feel the same emotions evoked as I, I get really happy. I also enjoy collaborating with different artists as it allows me to broaden my skillset and explore new emotions that I previously had thought were impossible to express.
