Redens, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Yes, I am currently earning a full-time living from my creative work. That journey was no easy one at all and was able to make all that happen through being consistent and being open to keep learning ways I can make this process work for me. It wasn’t like this from day and because off that, I’ve learned a lot along the way. One of my major milestones was being able to pay off my car from being an entrepreneur. Absolutely I could of sped up the process but that wasn’t my journey.

Redens, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello readers, when telling my story I always start off by saying that I’ve always remembered being an artist. My earliest artist memories are drawing of hybrids of sneakers and rockets. The shapes of sneakers back in the 90’s reminded me of rockets from the cartoons I used to watched. From that to then taking a painting class on my last semester of college while a Bio major. To then borrowing a camera from a friend to take pictures of the leaves changing colors. Fast forward to currently working with corporations, non-profit organization that share the mission of uplifting our community. In between that time, I dedicated a lot of time studying the craft that is photography. I wanted to honor what that really meant, because to me the outcome of one photo is the magic of seeing the physical evidence of freezing time. What’s cooler than that. I will admit that I should of also spent more time building my confidence instead of counting on others to help me with my career. But now I’m at the phase where I understand the moral capacity of being an entrepreneur and how to show up for each of my clients. The next thing I want to do is figure out how to automate it so that I can go sit my behind somewhere to enjoy the fruits of my labor.
The main thing I would hope people get to understand about me is that my intention is always to do the best that I can.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn my old ways of operations. My operation structure was not the best and I had to unlearn the old ways I used to think of entrepreneurship. I used to think that I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted to do, but that had a cost , and “payment was due everyday”. Now I’m the headspace where I’m making it clearer for myself on how I want to conduct my business, the rest will play itself out.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I was recently reminded of one of my favorite aspects of being an artist/creative is the opportunity to keep carving space for myself in this world. I’m seeing how it can start from an idea to then making it come to an opportunity where I get to be part of a community and get paid from it.
