We recently connected with Red The Shooter and have shared our conversation below.
Red , appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Wow, let’s take a trip down memory lane! To answer the question, yes! Yes, I have earned a full-time living from my creative work! What a blessing! It wasn’t easy, but very worth it. In 2017 I quit my full-time job and took a significant risk by working for myself, leaving a well-paying job and full benefits. I had a dream that I was writing my 2-week notice, and that next morning, I did just that. My manager asked me was I sure, I said I am positive! I had thought about it for about 3 months and I finally took that leap of faith. I didn’t tell my parents until about a month later because I didn’t want to have any doubts. I knew what that goal was and what it would take. I went from working 40 hours a week to about 80/90 hours a week haha. I had to wear all hats to get the job done. I was taking low-paying gigs, even free gigs at times just to build my resume. I do think I could have sped up the process looking back if I had started out shooting concert, music, and documentary-style films from the beginning and not weddings. But at the time, weddings were paying the bills haha. (Even today, I won’t turn down a wedding haha).

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For everyone who may not have read about me before, I am Red The Shooter, I am a creative who loves what I do and that’s to help illustrate your vision through my lens. Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I have one mission and that’s to be recognized as one of the best directors in the industry.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is having the freedom to fully express how you feel From the thought to the final visual.
