We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Red Rosé a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Red, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
When it comes to learning the craft or learning how to be a artist or any type of creative, the best way to learn to me is through trail and error . By just doing and failing and getting back up and trying and doing again and again.
One thing I could have done to speed up my learning process in the beginning is to maybe be more open minded. When I say open minded I mean have the mentality of ; what can I learn from this person , place or thing . Rather than a why is this happening to me mind set.
What skills do I think were most essential? Hmmm that’s a tough one. Because there are ALOT ! If I had to pick one or two skills I’d say being customer service oriented and knowing how to effectively communicate. I think some artist don’t realize how important it is to know how to speak to a person. So much of your life as an artist when your not writing , recording or performing you will spend talking to people. You don’t have to be a people person but you do need to know how to communicate and communicate effectively. Having some good customer service skills under your belt will surely help with this . I can start a cold conversation with almost anyone because of this skill.
Red, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So for people who are just getting to know about me. Hi ! Welcome to my Ted Talk ( L oh L). My name is Red Rosé. I am a singer/songwriter and creative director. I specialize in singing original RNB/Jazz styled music with a modern flair. I am very versatile so that is just the tip of the iceberg.
What I think sets me aparts from others is my individuality. When i create anything I am not making something that I think will just be good because it is “trendy” or “in” at the moment. I create and write music from my heart, from my life , what I’m going through , what I am feeling, what I am experiencing or have experienced.
What I want my fans , potential fans and anyone just coming across me for the first time to know about me and my brand is that I am really big on healing/mental health, self expression , self discovery and authenticity.
When I create music ; I use my writing as an outlet to be more transparent and my authentic self. I say whatever I’m feeling. Whether I’m feeling freaky (quoted from song “Real S***” by Red Rosé) or I’m feeling sad or I’m in love. I am going to say just that because that’s me . And I am using my artistry as a tool to aide in my own self expression. Being vocal about my feelings and experiences is apart of who I am. In a world where everyone wants to be the same I hope that my music can help inspire others to be their authentic selfs as well , whatever that may be for them. And be it unapologetically!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of the biggest things driving my creative journey. Hmm..I’d say is not letting the little girl inside of me down that use to sing, perform and put on shows for her toys and Barbie dolls. That’s a big motivation right there . I can’t let little Rosé down.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Honestly the most rewarding aspect of being a artist is when I get to go back and show my mom all my work. I show her my new songs , photoshoots for my music , etc. She is always so supportive. To know that what I am doing makes my mother proud has to be one of the most rewarding things for me.
