We recently connected with Red Milk Crone and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Red Milk Crone thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I have, yes, but it is hard and many full time jobs put together. It isn’t a 9 to 5 job. It’s a job replying to emails, being the shipping department, applying and submitting to several things a day, never exhausting your creating stamina, supplying quotes, social media manager, copywriter, and several more I can’t think of off the top of my head. But it’s all worth it. To be able to be your own boss is a very hard life task. Being able to reach beyond my reach is what I find most difficult.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been creative and an artist of many things. I write, I paint, I sculpt, and in the art world it is tough to show many styles and trying to maintain a “thing you’re known for” style. But I continue to create regardless. With as many opportunities as possible I try to show what I’m capable of. I believe my work ethic of being “prolific’ is what sets me apart from other artists. I push myself to an extreme that I look back on my week and wonder how I did it. That’s what it takes sometimes.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when a person simply tells me that they resonate with a piece. That’s it. Not even buying the work, although that is nice as well, but just simply telling me that it has affected them. That it has moved them. Art is politics and art is history, but art is life. Art is in the clothing you wear, the home you live in, the food you eat.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The only advice I can give for social media is make sure your pictures are good, your spelling is correct, and you keep posting as much as you can. That’s it for me. I post and hopefully it reaches the person fit to enjoy my work. We all start at zero with social media. Make sure you tell your family and friends to follow you and hopefully they support you on your social media journey.
