We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Reca A’Shauntae a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Reca , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I think about this quite often. When I was younger, you could always catch me dreaming of a new possibility that allowed me to dance between the lines of creativity and ambition. I’ve always kept a dream journal and no matter what it is, I would write down the wildest ideas even if I never attempted them. You just never know when you might need them. When I think back on my journey, I wish I never allowed fear and self-doubt to overcome me through various seasons. My heart is brims with passion and I recognize that I have a vibrant and fiery spirit. To answer your question, yes, I wish I would have started sooner. \Since childhood, I’ve always had a thirst for creativity, and it knew no bounds. I just needed to get out of my own way, I dared and challenged everything because in my mind, if it was a thought, it was possible. I was constantly fueled by a desire to explore every facet of how far I could take my dreams. Tthe lotus is significant to me because I can relate to its story. I even have a tattoo on my wrist. Buried, simply awaiting its moment to blossom. My moment to blossom has always been when I rediscover the power of belief—belief in myself, in my talents, and in the boundless potential that lay within my grasp. I have my fair share of “I wish I would have done this” or “I wish I would have stuck with one of the dreams I had”. That is what brings me here today to step into the light once more by sharing my story because I’m ready to embark once more on a journey of self-discovery and creative exploration without stopping while I am ahead. I’d like to believe that I am emerging as a beacon of inspiration, unapologetically carving my own path in the vast wilderness of creativity. For me, starting sooner is not just a wish; it is a testament to the resilience of my spirit, the unwavering determination that continues to fuel my every endeavor.
Reca , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Reca A’Shauntae is a visionary, a living embodiment of my dreams. The name “Reca” isn’t just a name; it’s a family name and it’s been my way to exist and standout as my own person. See, I am the only girl and baby of my family. I always felt I’ve grown up in my older sibling’s shadows, never seen or heard. I’ve painted Reca as a portrait of the woman of my dreams. She is bold and daring, refusing to be defined by societal norms or limitations. It’s been my brand. She’s a force to be reckoned with—a beacon of positivity and motivation in a world filled with many challenges.
My multidisciplinary background infuses every aspect of the work I find myself doing depth and insight. Yet, my journey hasn’t been without its obstacles. Post high school, I had dreams of becoming a sports broadcaster for ESPN, only to find myself daunted by the lack of representation in the industry. But rather than succumbing to the disappointment I felt, I charted new courses, leveraging my talents in marketing, media, and advertising. My dedication and commitment has earned me accolades such as Advertising Week’s 2023 Future is Female Honoree and Ad2Austin’s 32 under 32, solidifying my role as a trailblazer in my field. I’m excited about where I am now just as I am excited about what is to come. For Reca A’Shauntae, the journey is far from over.
