We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebels No Savage a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebels No Savage, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
A big point of contention in the music industry is the frequency of releases. We believe in delivering music to our fans on a consistent basis, whether or not we believe it will impact streaming numbers or our income.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are Rebels No Savage, a hip-hop duo from North Carolina that formed in 2016 and has performed over 70 live shows and released 14 albums together. We have accumulated over 10 million streams and views of our music and are inspired by artists like OutKast and Drake.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
We make music to make people feel positive emotion – happiness, encouragement, confidence – anything that makes people feel good. We believe in releasing a lot of music that tell stories and supply people with art that can drive a positive change in their life. We are driven by creativity and community, and love sharing new sounds with our audience to get their perspective on how the music impacts our life.
How’d you meet your business partner?
We met as sophomores in college at UNC Wilmington and immediately kicked it off and began making music together. Over time we started to fine-tune our sound, show our friends, and start to release music professionally.
