We recently connected with Rebecca Simon and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I took a big risk when I decided to leave college and pursue something completely different—esthetics. I had started college with the idea that it was the right path for me, but as time went on, I realized that it didn’t align with my passions. After deciding to leave school, I found myself more interested in skincare and beauty, so I made the tough decision to leave college behind and use my savings to enroll in esthetician school. It felt like a huge gamble because I was giving up the “safe” route everyone expected, but it turned out to be the best choice I could’ve made. Esthetician school was both challenging and exciting, and it led me to a career that truly makes me happy, where I get to help people feel confident and build something I’m proud of.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a licensed esthetician with a passion for skincare, beauty, and helping people feel confident in their skin. I offer a range of services including facials, lashes, brows, and custom spray tanning. What sets me apart is my commitment to personalized care and adjusting each treatment to meet my clients’ unique needs. My focus is on providing high-quality, results-driven services that promote both beauty and well-being.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that there’s a specific “right” order to accomplish things. After I received my esthetician license, I decided to pursue additional classes toward my degree, even though it was out of the traditional sequence. For a while, I believed that following a strict timeline or checklist was essential to success. But I realized that growth isn’t linear, and what matters most is prioritizing what’s important to you at any given time. Education is still a priority for me, but I now understand that it’s okay to approach it on my own terms, as long as I am growing.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been staying authentic and accepting that not everyone will be a perfect fit. When you’re true to yourself, you attract clients who align with your values and approach. It’s about fostering genuine connections and trusting that the right people will come to you. The clients who connect with your true self are the ones who will stay and build long-lasting relationships.
