We were lucky to catch up with Rebecca Shaw recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
As a social media marketing manager/ aspiring influencer, I’ve noticed a lot of trends of being authentic and sharing your story. What do you have to offer? Is there a voice to you or your brand? I think A lot of companies and influencers get big by being relatable and being able to share what they have to offer. I’m very big on being who you are and what you have to offer.

Rebecca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ever since I was younger I had a passion for creating content. Whether that is for other businesses and brands with BeckaBuzz or with my own content creation. Being creative has always been my love and desires. To live off my creations and ideas. To be able to do that was the ability to be consistent with my content creation and building my portfolio. To be able to show all that I’ve created and help build was something that has gotten me as far as I have. To shape and mold online and inspire individuals is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a young adult. Turning your craft into a business and being able to do something you love as work is the best thing in the world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the idea you had to be productive and work as much as you can. The hustle culture and the idea of working nonstop was something that almost made me lose sight in what matters. From the age of 14 I’ve had a job and in college I was working 3 jobs and going to school full-time. I had No time to rest or do the passions I loved to do. The jobs I was working at was no where near anything I wanted as a future job. It also Stopped me from my passion of creating art and content.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve built an audience on a business level with other clients and with my own self with makeup. The one advice I have is remain consistent to your story. What do you want to share online? What’s your story and what do you want to show to others online. How do you want to be seen online? Are there others out there doing it and if so, what can bring? Once you figure that out start posting! Nothing is too saturated to be apart of. There was already makeup brands before Rihanna came out with Fenty Beauty and look at the impact her brand has done. You also don’t need fancy cameras and backdrops or big budget or money to promote or build yourself online.
