We recently connected with Rebecca Pearl and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Growing up in a first-generation Haitian-American household with a single mother, being an artist definitely seemed a risky endeavor for my family. Time has proven that it was definitely not only the right choice but a very prosperous one at that. During my formative years, my family instilled in me a sense of independence, self-reliance, and self-confidence. I always felt a strong sense of capability in pursuing my dreams and being able to figure things out, even when the odds seemed stacked against me. By the grace of God and a lot of patience with myself, I have always come out on top.
Watching my mother handle life with purpose and courage, even when life sometimes seemed to want to knock her down, instilled in me a pillar of confidence and stability. I always knew deep down I was destined for great things, and I learned to believe that, and the course of my life soon followed suit.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Rebecca Pearl, a singer, songwriter, poet, and visionary. I’ve been singing since the womb and have been writing poetry and music since I was about 6 years old. Someone once told me that my voice made them feel as though they were wrapped in gold and light, and it brought tears to my eyes. I love to sing about healthy love and living life more abundantly.
It’s been a truly incredible journey thus far, and I’m just getting started. My debut single “Don’t Mind” was officially released earlier this year on January 27th, 2023. It’s about being in love with the person of your dreams – the one you asked God for. I wrote this song to be the very embodiment of my divine desires, where my dreams become a tangible reality. It’s about a love that is flawless, and ethereal, that came from Heaven itself, just for me. It celebrates the ties of true love and embraces devotion and commitment and the boundless pleasures it brings. It invites you to close your eyes and taste Heaven on Earth.
I’m currently working on an EP titled “Divine Alignment” that I’m really excited about. It’s about living in and experiencing love and life in divine alignment. The joy and ecstasy of what it feels like, and the sometimes difficult journey of getting there. It’s ethereal, whimsical, fun and so real, and it’s going to be a blast. I’ve been working with some really great producers and musicians and it’s becoming something truly great. I’m looking forward to sharing it with the world.
I’ve also been growing with my Youtube family as well, sharing my music, and performances, and working on a series called “Soft Life with Rebecca Pearl” where I talk about prospering, choosing healthy love, and honoring myself. @IAmRebeccaPearl
I have sung for the likes of Cardi B and Tasha Cobbs, and am continuing to rise in the industry. I began writing music initially as a means of release in the difficult periods of my early life, but it became my way of serving the world. I desire to create atmospheres for people to meditate on the most beautiful things in life, leave behind anything that would deter them from that, and have a grand time in the process.
As a poet, my writing has always been very “real”. Originally, I began writing to fully express how I feel, and today it’s become a tool, and one of my greatest weapons. A while back I wrote and released a spoken word piece called “I Am Woman”; which I consider to be God’s love letter to me, at a time when I needed it most. It is a divine reclamation of identity, and a declaration of my essence and value as a woman. Today, that poem has inspired and healed the hearts of thousands of women, and counting.
My favorite thing about being an artist is my ability to connect with people at a deeper level. To know that what I create allows someone to feel seen, and loved, to gain the strength to leave what was never meant for them and choose what fills and heals them, is one of the greatest gifts to me. Bringing joy to people is something I always aspire to do, and getting to do that on a grand scale is an incredible blessing.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Invest in great art, whether that be buying tickets to see the up-and-coming artists in your area, purchasing t-shirts or wristbands, sending a DM thanking them for what they do, and having the bravery to do it, subscribing to a Patreon, hiring them to perform at an event your curating, or sowing into them just like you would any other business, ministry or organization. I think people already do a great job at supporting artists, as I have experienced it myself. Building awareness around ways people can support an artist could be improved, and I think once people know that it’s needed and what they can do, they will. People love to support and help other people. It’s one of my favorite things about life.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
People love to help and believe in you. Knowing this earlier could have saved me a lot of headaches, especially when I felt like I had to figure it all out myself. People genuinely do care, and will do whatever they can to help. My journey has been interesting, to say the least, but I would not be where I am today without the love and care of my family, my mentors, and my friends. I truly believe that God uses people to do what he wants to do in our lives, and I’m so grateful for everyone who decided to be an answered prayer for me. Adopting the mindset of abundance and love took time, but it’s been one of the greatest things to ever happen to me.
