Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rebecca Norris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Rebecca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Back in 2020, I went through a health scare that really made me reflect on life’s priorities. Around the same time, I had just upgraded my camera gear. As I scrolled through my own photos, I realized there weren’t many that truly captured the essence of my family moments. I was often behind the lens, missing from the memories. That’s when it hit me—I wanted to provide families with the kind of cherished photos I longed for: genuine moments captured with loved ones. After all, our children will grow up, and all they’ll have left are those snapshots of us together. So, my mission is all about blending the joy of candid shots with the timeless elegance of classic portraits. It’s about giving families those genuine, picture-perfect memories they’ll treasure forever.
Rebecca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Rebecca, A family, newborn, and maternity photographer and the face behind Rebecca Norris Photography. My journey into photography began with a personal quest for meaningful memories. After a health scare in 2020 and realizing the lack of cherished photos with my family, I decided to turn my passion for capturing authentic moments into a business.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started my photography journey, I had big dreams of becoming a sought-after wedding photographer. I even assisted at a few weddings and thought it was the path for me. However, as I delved deeper into that world, I realized it wasn’t quite the right fit for me. Despite feeling happy for the couples, I found myself burnt out and exhausted after each event. Maybe it’s the introvert in me, but I just didn’t thrive in those large, bustling environments.
It was during this time that I decided to pivot and focus more on family photography. I did a few family sessions, and instantly, I felt alive and fulfilled. Capturing those intimate moments and genuine connections brought me so much joy, and I realized that’s where my passion truly lay. So, I shifted my focus entirely to family photography, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey ever since.”
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Recently, I’ve been challenging myself to unlearn the idea of perfectionism in photography. For so long, I held onto the belief that every image had to be flawless to be considered successful. However, I’ve come to realize that perfectionism can stifle creativity.
The turning point came when I started photographing families, especially those with children. Anyone who’s spent time around kids knows they have a mind of their own! I found that by loosening my grip on perfection and embracing spontaneity, I was able to capture more authentic and memorable moments.
So, I’ve been working hard to let go of rigid rules and instead focus on finding the perfect light and make beautiful images.
