We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebecca McDaniel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I typically post about my twins on my social media platforms. Usually about their matching clothes and where to find them and what it’s like being a twin Mom. My sister reached out to me and told me about this influencer opportunity on TikTok. You had to have at least 5000 followers and I barely made the cut. I created my own TikTok Shop and purchased a bralette from a boutique. Once I received the product in the mail, I made my video and posted it. In the first week, I had over 500 sales and profited over $1800.00. I was totally out of my comfort zone making the video because I only ever post about my kids, but I took the risk and it definitely paid off.

Rebecca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started off with my own website where I would link cute boy/girl twin matches for others to find. I basically took the busy work out of searching for the perfect matches. I got away from my website a bit and now, I currently consider myself an influencer and promote products on my social media platforms. I am extremely picky about the products I promote. It is a must that I believe in the product, especially if it’s a product I’m having my kids use.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
While I would love to say the most rewarding part of my job is sharing products I love, it is actually receiving the commission. Influencers like myself make money one of two ways. A brand will reach out and will pay you to create a video (or two) or you only earn commission. I love getting new products to use and try out but the best part is getting paid.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I would love to make enough money to where this is my only job and I’m bringing in enough revenue to support my family.
