We recently connected with Rebecca Martinez and have shared our conversation below.
Rebecca, appreciate you joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes I am definitely much happier as a business owner compared to when I was working for someone else, 9-5. I never think about what it would be like to have a regular job ever again. I cannot imagine having to report to someone else, get told what to do and where to be, and to be putting my time into making someone else richer. Being an entrepreneur and business owner is a dream come true and I will do everything in my power to live a life of freedom and financial freedom until I die.
Rebecca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am 3 year, 6 figure Amazon Seller, a mentor to over 500 students, an influencer and an entrepreneur. I started selling on Amazon part time while I was a collegiate strength and conditioning coach. Strength and conditioning does not pay the bills, so I found myself taking on other hustles like DoorDashing, doing volleyball private lessons and trying to resell old clothes on Mercari. I ended up developing a health condition that had me in and out of the hospital for 4 months. My diagnosis took a toll on my physical health – and with strength and conditioning you need to be in great physical shape. For safety reasons, I had to take a health leave from the job and I went on to do Amazon full time and never looked back. Being my own boss and making money for me was and is amazing and I wanted to show others they can do it too. That is when I started my brand FINDIT.FLIPIT, which I essentially just started documenting what it was like to sell on Amazon. People got intrigued fast and wanted to know more about it and how to do it. That is when I started taking on students, teaching them how to become a successful Amazon Seller and doing it one on one. I am most proud of helping as many people as I have so far in just a year. Really helping people just get an extra income every month or setting people up for where they can quit their jobs and be their own boss as well.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I started selling on Amazon with just $200 left to my name. I used that money to create an LLC, that way I could get a business credit card / funding to leverage when it came to needing inventory / supplies. However, all of those items take time to get approved and mailed. I still had a rent, utilities and needed food to eat. I started DoorDashing to make extra money for my business venture. Whether I could only DoorDash for 20 minutes or 2 hours, I was getting it done. Every dollar counted for me and my business, and I wanted to do everything I could to set myself up to be successful in the beginning stages of my business.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy to growing a following and clientele is transparency within the content I post and being genuine in my craft. I truly believe people can really feel it through their phone or on a phone call if you are a genuine human being who really cares about helping people and seeing them succeed. I post content that is real, showing and talking about the negatives of a business and showing my following that I am a human too, just like them. Having a community trust you and your intentions is huge and I am SO grateful that mine do.
